Eurovision 2024: Which rehearsal has the most views on TikTok?

Two days ago, the first rehearsals for all 37 entries officially concluded, and today the second rehearsals are expected to be completed, with the Big 5 and the host country Sweden taking the stage at the Malmö Arena for the second time! This means that we are getting closer to the Eurovision week, with the Dress and Jury Rehearsals for the first semi-final starting on Monday.

However, as we know on TikTok, all the first rehearsals are uploaded. Apart from their performances, we’ll also get a sneak peek backstage before they take the stage for the first time in a video of about one minute.

One of the many features of TikTok is the ability to add songs to each user’s video creation. However, the TikTok algorithm is usually able to detect the song used in the video, assign it to the correct track, and then include it in the total number of videos where that sound has been used. Based on this capability, the most popular songs before rehearsals were from the Netherlands and Italy. Will they receive the same promotion as before?

The ranking with all the entries (in brackets will be the day of the rehearsal) based on the increasing number of views after one week from the start of the first rehearsals on TikTok is as follows:

  1. Netherlands: Joost (fourth day) – Europapa – 3.2 milion views
  2. Greece: Marina Satti (third day) – ZARI – 2.7 million views
  3. Poland: LUNA (first day)– The Tower –1.5 million views
  4. Switzerland: Nemo (third day) – The Code – 1.2 million views

Based on the views from the first semi-final, the following countries will qualify (in ascending order): Poland, Serbia, Ukraine, Croatia, Ireland, Azerbaijan, Cyprus (seventh), Lithuania, Luxembourg, and Australia.

Similarly, from the second semi-final, the following countries will qualify: Netherlands, Greece, Switzerland, Georgia, Israel, Belgium, Armenia, Albania, Latvia, and Austria.

TikTok has played a significant role in the success of Eurovision songs in recent years. For example, Duncan Laurence’s winning entry “Arcade” became a global hit a year after winning the competition when it was used in over a million videos on TikTok. One of the earliest TikTok successes from Eurovision was Getter Jaani’s “Rockefeller Street”, which went viral on the platform in 2018 and has since been used in over two million videos. Let’s not forget that Armenia’s entry in 2022 by Rosa Linn with “Snap” gained over a billion views on the platform. Finally, Norway’s entry last year gained significant worldwide publicity months before the competition week, where it secured fifth place.

Eurovision 2024: Spain’s Second Rehearsal!

Next up on the stage of Eurovision Song Contest 2024 is Spain. Nebulossa with their song “ZORRA” are ready for their second rehearsal on the stage of Malmö Arena!

Who are Nebulossa?

This synth-pop duo from Alicante features Mery Bas providing vocals and Mark Dasousa on synths.

Bas and Dasousa are also a couple in real life, having been married for over 20 years and having two children. Bas decided to embark on a musical career after turning 50, and the artist wants to encourage people to break free from society’s labels and celebrate their identities and liberty. That’s how Nebulossa was born

The lyrics of “ZORRA” are autobiographical and were conceived as self-therapy by Mery, who needed to express herself to shake all the feelings of discrimination she has felt for being a free-spirited woman.

Nebulossa won Benidorm Fest 2024, the Spanish national selection for Eurovision 2024, and got the ticket for Malmö.

The Rehearsal

Next up it’s Spain’s Nebulossa, bringing huge shoulders and big 80s synth-pop vibes to the Eurovision stage. They are made up of vocalist Mery Bas, and Mark Dasousa on the guitar.

Zorra means ‘vixen’ in Spanish, but it’s also used as a slur about women – I would share the relevant words, but after Aiko bra-gate, I’m trying not to crash the live blog. So this song is about reclaiming the word Zorra and breaking free from the discrimination free-spirited women are subjected to.

It’s also a huge disco bop, and fans of Benidorm Fest *waves in Spanish* will be delighted to learn that the circular red sofa has come to Malmo, but a front section has been painted gold so it’s giving a very classy Spanish flag. We don’t find this out until the end of the intro, however, because this performance starts INSIDE the middle cube – it’s the first time we’ve seen it lowered to the stage. Which means there’s ACTUALLY A BOX. Incredible.

The whole vibe and aesthetic is very much what we saw at Benidorm Fest, but just bigger and more fabulous – with lyrics on the LED wall during the singalong sections, and huge ZORRAs pulsing on the cubes.

Mery’s costume is a sheer lace catsuit with flared trousers and giant puffy shoulders – we’ve just been told that it was designed by US designer Michael Costelloe and is encrusted with over 100,000 tiny crystals.

Her two male dancers, meanwhile, start in stylish black suits, but they’re soon dispensed with to reveal bare chests, thonged corsets, and PVC thigh boots. It’s three minutes of pure theatre, and we can’t wait to hear the whole crowd singing along to this next week.

Eurovision 2024: Which rehearsal had the most views on the sixth day?

Yesterday, the first rehearsals were officially concluded, with the Big 5 and the host country Sweden taking the stage at the Malmö Arena for the first time! Regarding what we liked and what we would like to see again, you can read our new editorial. Also, you can read our article from the day before yesterday about the rehearsals of the eight countries from the second semifinal who completed their rehearsals on Tuesday.

However, as we know on TikTok, all the first rehearsals are uploaded. Apart from their performances, we’ll also get a sneak peek backstage before they take the stage for the first time in a video of about one minute.

One of the many features of TikTok is the ability to add songs to each user’s video creation. In less than 24 hours (May 3, 2024, time 15:35 CET), since the first clip from the rehearsals was uploaded, we have a indicative sample of which rehearsal was favored by the audience (here it should be noted that the videos were uploaded one after the other with a one and a half hour interval and there was a significant delay in their publication).

The rehearsals that had the most views are:

  1. Sweden: Marcus & Martinus – Unforgettable – 344.1 thousand views
  2. United Kingdom: Olly Alexander – Dizzy – 328.9 thousand views
  3. Spain: Nebulossa – Zorra – 264.1 thousand views
  4. France: Slimane – Mon Amour – 247.4 thousand views
  5. Germany: Isaak – Always On The Run – 152.9 thousand views
  6. Italy: Angelina Mango – La Noia – 136.1 thousand views

With this small sample, we can infer that:

  • Sweden and the United Kingdom impressed the fans, capturing the first and second positions respectively in views on their first rehearsal. Will they have the same response tomorrow when they take the stage for their second rehearsal?
  • Surprisingly, the favorite to win, Italy, and Angelina Mango are in the last position in views from their first rehearsal.
  • Since it has only been 20 hours since the first video was posted on TikTok, there is a possibility that countries will recover in views very soon.”

Stay tuned because tomorrow the overall ranking of all 37 entries based on their views on TikTok before the semi-finals will be revealed.

Spain: Choreographer talks about ‘Zorra’

The choreographer of Zorra talked in an exclusive interview for El Español about how she met Nebulossa’s vocalist, Mery Bas, and the choreography for Zorra.

Choreographer Vero Mejía met Mery in 2022 while working on her Una Voce per San Marino 2023 entry.  Before working for Benidorm Fest, she made choreographies for Mónica Naranjo and Nicky Jam.

She helped her improve the staging and continue their collaboration for Benidorm Fest 2024.  Vero Mejía will continue working on the choreography for Eurovision 2024 in Malmö.

When Vero Mejía met Mery Bas, she did not know that the choreography they were working on was planned for the San Marinese national final.  Unfortunately, Nebulossa did not advance in the selection process.  However, they continued working together.  According to Mejía, she listened to the demo version of ‘Zorra’ in advance in her Dance Center in Valencia, Spain.  She loved the unconventional message of the song and saw this opportunity as a gift.

When I make a choreography, I take inspiration from the topic and the singer´s personality.  The way they move, they talk to me and look at me, without even knowing suggests the moves that will fit the song and that’s exactly what happened with ‘Zorra’.

Zorra’s choreography includes natural features to keep the singer’s personality in the song.  Many of the dance steps for the dancers are based on what Mery does.  Vero Mejía is satisfied with many beautiful and iconic moments of the song such as the moment where the dancers slap their butts as well as the hand gesture in the “cara de postal” verse.

During their work, Vero Mejía established a personal connection with Mery Bas.

I instantly get her essence.  She is very close, very sweet, and sensual.  Just with her look and the way she is.  For me, it was beautiful and shocking at the same time a song so strong with such a sensual and sweet personality.

Norway: Spain Wins First Episode of Adresse Malmø Show!

The Norwegian state broadcaster NRK airs a special program dedicated to the Eurovision Song Contest every year. Each week, approximately eight songs are reviewed by judges who rate the songs from one to twelve points.

Nebulossa from Spain won the first episode of the Norwegian preview show for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.

In the celebrity jury for the first Adresse Liverpool show were Ingeborg Heldal, Stian “Staysman” Thorbjørnsen, Jim Ødegård Pedersen, and Marte Stokstad.

Comedian Pernille Sørensen and presenter Peter Bubresko participated in the show for the first episode in the main jury. In the fan jury, Ida Hovland (from Haugesund, Norway), Catharina Amundsen (from Halden, Norway), and Erling Levang (from Nittedal/Haugesund, Norway) gave their ratings.

The results were as follows:

  • Spain – Nebulossa – Zorra – 79 Points (12, 4, 12, 10, 7, 10, 12, 12)
  • Azerbaijan – Fahree ft. Ilkin Dovlatov – Özünlə apar – 69 Points (5, 12, 10, 12, 4, 7, 12, 7)

Among the countries to be rated by the juries are Austria, Iceland, and Belgium.

  • Show Three – Friday, April 19th

Thomas Numme and Tara Lina Shahin are part of the main jury for the third episode. The fan jury includes Drian Vad Flaaten (from Tønsberg, Norway), Victoria Haugan Saur (from Sunndal, Norway), and Alex Snyder from Vikersund/USA. Among the countries to be rated are France, Denmark, and Ireland.

  • Show Four – Friday, April 5th

Sandeep Singh and Erik Solbakken, host of Eurovision 2010 and Eurovision Young Dancers 2011, are part of the jury. Eva Nodeland (from Elverum, Norway), Øystein Antonsen (from Arendal, Norway), and Omid Rashidi (from Visby, Norway) are part of the fan jury. Among the countries to be rated are Switzerland, Finland, and Italy.

  • Show Five – Friday, May 3rd

In the final episode of Adresse Malmø, Are Kalvø and Ingebjørg Bratland will participate in the main jury. Marko Stojiljkovic (from Serbia), Jon Arne Ravndal (from Oslo), and Anna Lycke (from Nannestad, Sweden) are part of the fan jury. Among the countries to be rated are Croatia, Greece, and Sweden.

Spain: Details revealed for Nebulossa’s performance!

Spanish TV broadcaster RTVE has revealed further details about the staging of Nebulossa and their song “Zorra” at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö.

RTVE, in disclosing the details of how “Zorra” will be performed at Eurovision 2024 in Malmö, also announced Juan Sebastián and Israel Reyes as the artistic directors.

The aforementioned duo previously oversaw the performance of “Zorra” at Benidorm Fest 2024 and are described as experienced artistic directors and stage designers, having worked on various television programs and events in the past.

Sebastián and Reyes revealed to RTVE that they immediately fell in love with “Zorra” and have an exceptional collaboration with Nebulossa members María Bas and Mark Dasousa, stating that they have their complete trust.

Furthermore, RTVE reveals that Vero Mejía has joined the team as the choreographer for Nebulossa’s performance and promises to create an exceptional show in Malmö:

All elements are being added, and the package is being designed by the artistic direction as a 360° concept – visuals, costumes, choreography, lighting, and production. With these, we have adjusted all the necessary elements to create the best package so that the Spanish delegation arrives in Malmö with a compact product and attention to detail.

Nebulossa is a duo from Ondara in the Valencian Community of southeastern Spain, consisting of singer María “Mery” Bas and producer Mark Dasousa. The couple has been married for 20 years and has two children.

Nebulossa was chosen as the representatives for Eurovision 2024 after their victory at Benidorm Fest 2024, and they will perform their song “Zorra” in the Grand Final on May 11 as well as in the Second Semi-Final!

Spain: Lérica and Jorge González were the favorites of the internal RTVE jury!

Despite the fact that Nebulossa won Benidorm Fest 2024, the spanish national selection and will ultimately wave the country’s flag at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest with their song “Zorra“, RTVE‘s internal jury rank other entries higher.

The aforementioned jury had the responsibility to choose the participants of this year’s Benidorm Fest through ranking them. As the spanish internet newspaper Publico reveals, after a request they sent towards the spanish broadcaster, the internal RTVE jury had placed Astronauta by Lérica first and Caliente του Jorge González second, while they ranked Zorra by Nebulossa fifth. Also, Benidorm Fest’s runner-up St. Pedro with Dos Extraños (Cuarteto de Cuerda) was placed 14th by the internal jury.

The last place was a tie score-wise between Quique Niza and Yoly Saa. Yoly Saa’s song (No se me olvida) as well as Mantra’s entry (Me vas a ver) were originally named Llorar un mar and No eres para tanto respectively, but they switched their title before the Festival.

The names of the substitutes were also unveiled: Verónica Terrés, Ondina, Reyko, Ángela Carrasco, La Beba and Veintiuno came close to taking part at Benidorm Fest, especially Verónica Terrés, who had only a 2-point difference from Quique Niza and Yoly Saa. As for Ángela Carrasco, she is a renowed Dominican artist, who eventually appeared at Benidorm Fest, as a member of the jury.
