Italy: The co-hosts for Sanremo 2022 revealed!

The final countdown for Festival di Sanremo 2022 has started and the art director Amadeus reveals, as the firts week of February comes closer and closer, information about what we are going to see the five nights of the festival. A little while ago, he published the names of the five co-hosts that will accompany him each of the five nights.

  • Tuesday, 01/02: Ornella Muti, actress with long career in cinema and TV, well-known in Italy and internationally

  • Wednesday, 02/02: Lorena Cesarini, actress mostly known from the Italian series Suburra: Blood of Rome, which since its beginning back in 2017 has a great success in and out of Italy

  • Thursday, 03/02: Drusilla Foer, a made-up character/role and social media star created by the actress Gianluca Gori.

  • Friday, 04/02: Maria Chiar Giannetta, actress known for her leading role in the Italian series Blanca, that premiered in 2022

  • Saturday, 05/02: Sabrina Ferilli, theatre and cinema actress

Italy: Laura Pausini among the candidates to host Eurovision 2022!

The Italian newspaper, La Stampa, reports that the country’s singer and superstar, Laura Pausini, is among the candidates for the presentation of the 66th Eurovision Song Contest, which will take place next May in Turin.

La Stampa reports that Laura Pausini has already been hit by RAI over the above possibility. Laura first appeared on the music scene in 1993 when she won the Young Artists category at the Sanremo Festival, with the now legendary “La solitudine”. This song was the springboard for her later career, as it brought her to the charts of almost all European countries.

Since then she has released fourteen studio albums, toured around the world, coached talent shows in Italy and Spain, and starred in an Amazon film.

Rai1 director Stefano Coletta confirmed in an interview with ANSA that the hosts of Eurovision 2022 will not be revealed until after the end of Sanremo 2022 which will take place between 1 and 5 February.

Turin will host the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 on 10, 12 and 14 May 2022. The venue of the 2022 contest is PalaOlimpico. The arena opened in 2005 and has hosted many concerts and sporting events, including ice hockey tournaments during the 2006 Winter Olympics.

Italy: Sanremo 2022 contestants will be revealed starting today

Today Amadeus will start revealing the names of the twenty-two artists that will compete in the Festival di Sanremo 2022.  This is one of the rule changes that will take place this year.  Previously, it was not until December 15 when the names were revealed during the final of Sanremo Giovani.

Accordingly, we will get to know the names of the contestants one at the time over the next two weeks, starting from today.  Nevertheless, all the artists will perform at the Sanremo Giovani as before.

The Festival della canzone italiana di Sanremo 2022 will take place from February 1 to February 5.  RAI revealed in June during a press conference that the Sanremo hosts will not host the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.

Six ex-winners return at the competition

Less than three weeks remain for the official announcement of the cast of 22 artists of the Sanremo 2022 Festival. In the 22 names that Amadeus will announce on December 15, the two winners of Sanremo Giovani will be added.

Among the people whose participation is now considered almost certain is Elisa. Twenty-one years after her unique and successful participation, Elisa seems to have found the desire to get back in the game. Her participation is very important, as it will pave the way for other superstars in the country to participate in the future.

Another impressive comeback could be that of Emma, ​​ten years after her victory she returns, aiming for victory this time as well.

But they are not the only former winners to return, at least according to current rumors. Mahmood, Fabrizio Moro and Marco Masini, both former winners, take the competition to new heights!

The announcement of the final cast will be made as we told you above, on the sidelines of the final of Sanremo Giovani, which is scheduled for December 15 in prime time at Rai Uno.

Sanremo 2022 will be held at the Teatro Ariston in the small Ligurian town of Sanremo, from 1 to 5 February. The winner will also have the opportunity (if he so wishes) to represent Italy in the 66th Eurovision Song Contest, which will take place a few kilometers away, in May in Turin.

Italy 2022: Sanremo rules revealed!

RAI has made available the rules for the 72nd edition of the Sanremo Festival.  The Italian broadcaster will continue using their prestigious music festival to select their Eurovision entry.

The 2022 Sanremo festival takes place from February 1 to February 5 2022.  According to the 2022 rules some major changes will take place in the selection procedure.

Sanremo 2022 Festival Schedule

This is what you should pay attention to watch the Sanremo festival like a pro:

  • 1st Day (Tuesday 01, February 2022)
    Listen the first 12 songs for the first time.  A 34% press and tv Jury, 33% radio jury and 33% web jury will determine the result of this day.  No elimination will take place.
  • 2nd Day (Wednesday 02, February 2022)
    The last 12 songs will perform for the first time. A 34% press and tv Jury, 33% radio jury and 33% web jury will determine the result of this day.  No elimination will take place.
  • 3rd Day (Thursday 03, February 2022)
    You can listen once again to the 24 songs.  This time the result is split in a 50% televoting, 50% demoscopy jury.  No elimination will take place.
  • 4th Day (Friday 04, February 2022)
    Cover day: The acts will perform a cover version of an Italian or non-Italian song from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.  A 34% televoting, 33% press, tv, radio and web jurt and 33% demoscopy jury will determine the result of the day.  No elimination will take place.
  • 5th Day (Saturday 05, February 2022)
    The 24 participants will perform the songs one more time.  A 100% televoting will decide the result of the final day.

Eurovision 2022 Selection

The 24 acts (and record labels) who are interested in representing Italy in Eurovision will have to sign a special form.  As it has happened in the previous Italian selections, the winner of Sanremo 2022 will be the first on the list to represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.  If the winner refused the invitation the organizing committee will pick the Italian representative according to their own criteria from the candidates that have expressed their interest to represent Italy.

Italy has used Sanremo as their national final for Eurovision since its return to the contest in 2011 (with the only exception being 2014).

Eurovision 2022: 41 countries joining the 66th contest in Turin!

Public broadcasters from 41 countries will take part in the Eurovision Song Contest when it returns to our screens next May.

Fans of the Contest will welcome back ARMTV from Armenia and RTCG from Montenegro, both taking to the stage for the first time since Tel Aviv in 2019.

It’s also a special year for Norwegian broadcaster NRK as they will be celebrating the selection of their 60th Eurovision entry during the Melodi Grand Prix grand final on Saturday 19 February.

We will also witness the 300th ‘Big Five’ performance – that’s a song from one of either France, Germany, Italy, Spain or United Kingdom.

Martin Österdahl, Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest, shared his thoughts on the line-up:

‘We are so excited that we once again have over 40 broadcasters competing to win the iconic Eurovision trophy in Turin next May.

The team from Rai are working hard on preparations to welcome all the delegations to a new Host City and ensuring the Eurovision Song Contest will provide the excitement and state-of-the-art spectacle expected by nearly 200 million viewers.’

On the announcement of the 41 participants, Simona Martorelli and Claudio Fasulo from Italian broadcaster Rai added:

‘After 31 years, Italy is proud to host the Eurovision Song Contest again! As Executive Producers, we are incredibly excited to set up this amazing event and welcome delegations from 41 nations to Turin next year.

Above all, we strongly believe the Eurovision Song Contest will allow us to showcase and share the beauty of Italy with a global audience via the elements that unite us all: music and harmony.’

The Italian city of Turin won the race to become the Host City of the 66th Eurovision Song Contest, setting Saturday 14 May as the date of the Grand Final, which will be held in PalaOlimpico along with two Semi-Finals on 10 and 12 May.

Eurovision 2022: More than 40 countries will compete in Turin!

Through the official account of the Eurovision Contest on Twitter, a few minutes ago we had an important piece of information. The countries that will take part in Eurovision 2022, will be more than 40!

A few days ago again through Twitter, the Eurovision account asked fans how many countries they think will take part in Turin.

About 62% answered more than 40 countries and today we learned that this answer was the right one!

The above practically means that apart from Montenegro, which has already announced its return to Eurovision 2022, but also Armenia, which, although it has not yet opened its papers, its participation in Junior Eurovision in December makes us almost sure that the Caucasian country will return. We may have other countries that will either return or make their debut in the contest that will take place next May in Turin.

Andorra, Monaco, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovakia and Hungary do not seem willing to return. On the other hand, Turkey has so far kept a low profile. However, the EBU’s announcement this summer, for discussions with the country’s public broadcaster regarding the possibility of its return, leaves some hope.

Soon, however, we will find out the full list of countries that will compete in the 66th Eurovision Song Contest and all our questions will be answered!

Italy: Is superstar Elisa returning to Sanremo?

One piece of news that, if confirmed, will literally shake the waters, is Elisa’s participation in the upcoming Sanremo Song Festival, something that of course makes her a possible representative of Italy in Eurovision 2022!

According to the widely circulated newspaper, Il Messagero, among the first names of artists rumored to have been approached by Amadeus to participate in Sanremo 2022 is Elisa.

Elisa, who won the 2001 Sanremo with the song Luce, which she co-wrote with Zucchero, is one of the few Italian artists to have achieved worldwide success with English songs.

Songs like Come Speak to Me, Dancing, No Hero are just some of her big hits. She is in possession of a diamond, a polyplatinine, 25 platinum and four gold discs. Her songs have been included in major film productions, and she has won dozens of awards, including an MTV Awards.

Il Messagero reports that in the upcoming Sanremo Festival he will participate in a duet with the rap singer, Rkomi. Other names mentioned are those of Loredana Berte, Francesco Renga, Marco Masini, Giusy Ferreri, Colcenera, Kolors etc.

The 72nd Sanremo Festival will take place in the first week of February, from the 1st to the 5th of the month. Italy will once again choose its representative in the Eurovision Song Contest, through the historic festival.

Eurovision 2022: The decision for the city that will host the contest has not been made yet!

Our friends from the always valid Eurofestivalnews in their exclusive article, state that the decision for the city that will host the 66th Eurovision Song Contest has not yet been made by RAI and the EBU.

The five cities vying for Eurovision 2022 will have to worry for an unknown period of time, as Italian public television has not yet reached its final selection. Milan, Turin, Bologna, Pesaro and Rimini each hope for their own reasons that she has submitted the most complete proposal to host this important event next May. The truth is, however, that despite the announcement from the official Eurovision account that we will soon have the announcement (posting a pizza that was baked), it seems that we will wait a few more days.

Eurofestivalnews reveals that the reason for this delay is the fact that RAI started the procedures for the selection of the city, publishing the relevant announcement for the submission of candidacies in mid-July, while this is usually done at the end of June. This practically means that we are two weeks behind.

In addition, the RAI team continues to visit the five cities and there is still a joint meeting of the RAI people with the EBU, before the announcement is made.

What is certain is that all five candidate cities have the same chances and what has been said from time to time about supposed favorites has nothing to do with reality. RAI keeps its mouth shut and refers the interested parties to the official announcements, which, although they are not late, will not be made immediately.

Italy: 18+2 finalists for San Remo 2022!

This year, the 72nd edition of San Remo will take place in Teatro Ariston, in the small town of Liguria, with some small changes due to bate the duration of the festival. As it has been announced from All Music Italia a reliable source,  Amadeus is planning limit the number of artists who are about to compete in the Big Category to 20 and also abolish the category of New Artists.

Last year’s version of San Remo has been completed with a huge success, choosing the winners of this year’s Eurovision edition, Maneskin. However, viewers from all over Europe have been complaining due to the excessive duration of the festival. As a result of that, Amadeus decided to have less than 26 Campioni, last year’s number, in the main category of 20 artists and remove the category for New Artists called “Nuove Proposte”, just like 2019.

Amadeu’s main plan is to have two winners of Sanremo Giovani, happening in the 16th of December, participating in the festival’s big category, which means that among the 20 participants, who are about to compete for Golden Lion Trophy, the two of them will be the winners of Sanremo Giovani.

Meanwhile, eurofans are still waiting for the announcement of the host country and RAI published a video which includes all the great things the country has achieved the last few months with “Zitti e Buoni” playing in the background.
