Eurovision 2022: Australia’s Second Rehearsal!

Seventh day of rehearsals in Turin and the last countries of the Second Semifinal are ready for their rehearsals. Australia is first on the scene. She is represented by Sheldon Riley with ‘Not The Same’.

Who is Sheldon Riley?

Sheldon is known both for the strong visuals in his performances and for his fascinating music. Performing, singing, writing and playing the piano is inherent in what it is, considering music as the purest way of expressing one’s emotions and allowing oneself to heal.

In February 2022, Sheldon won the Eurovision – Australia Decides with his song Not The Same, but this was not his first time on television, having previously competed in The X Factor Australia, The Voice Australia, and even America’s Got Talent.

The rehearsal

Sheldon is at the bottom of two giant stairs, to his left and right. She is wearing a huge white wedding dress with fur, covering the floor.

He also wears silver shiny jewelry on his face and hands, as in the national final.

The lighting is quite dark, while the shots are close and from above.

A strong vocal performance by Sheldon, with his great notes ready to break up the stage.

Eurovision 2022: Israel’s Second Rehearsal!

Right before the break we have Israel rehearsing! This is how the first rehearsal was described: ‘Great vocal? Tick. Super-polished dance routine? Tick. Hot dancers in white outfits? Tick. Fully fabulous pop banger? Tick tick tick. Eurovision level complete.’

About The Second Rehearsal

Michael is one of the most charismatic artists this year! This is a… PERFORMANCE. So much energy and so much effort were put into it. I think it was missing some fireworks and some colours other than white (the primary one) and red. Vocally perfect. Everything was on point. The camerawork is nice. A very energetic performance to look forward to! They managed to create a fun performance!

Eurovision 2022: Finland’s Second Rehearsal!

The fourth act to rehearse is the opener of the Second Semi-Final –  Finland – with their worldwide famous rock group – The Rasmus with their song ”Jezebel”. Finland’s set is covered with with huge, floating black balloons, and the band have brought bright yellow wet weather clothing to the Turin stage. Maybe they’re planning a dip in the waterfall? As you’d expect from The Rasmus, this is a really confident performance that packs a powerful visual punch with the yellow lighting. They’re like a swarm of rock bees, and we’re very much awake. Of COURSE Finland have fireworks and smoke jets in the final chorus – it’s pure rock ‘n’ roll. This is what we found out about the first rehearsal of theirs.

About The Second Rehearsal

What an opener! Fantastic camerawork, the props add more power to the song and it looks pretty much epic. It’s vocally bad and we hope the soloist improves until the Jury Show which will take place one day before the Second Semi-Final! Nothing else to add, the atmosphere they have created is fabulous, locals will enjoy it!

Eurovision 2022: Armenia’s Second Rehearsal!

Armenia is the third country to rehearse with precious Rosa Linn! There’s a full constructed set for this performance, our first of the day. It’s a white bedroom with walls and furniture that look like they’re made from sticky notes – we’ve just had a chat with the Armenian delegation (sat in the Green Room pod next to us) and they’ve confirmed it’s a reinforced paper structure. The set also rotates (through manpower, rather than an actual rotating stage), which provides a very cool ending. This is what we found out during the first rehearsals.

About The Second Rehearsal

What a gorgeous and touching rehearsal! The performance starts with Rosa Linn sitting on her bed and playing the guitar. She then puts it away and stands up. She’s tearing down some post-it notes and we can see such writings as ”June 22nd”, ”The Last One”, ‘Snap’, heart drawing. In the bridge she tears down the circle you all might have noticed when first rehearsal pictures dropped! A fabulous ending. The camera angles are perfect and the shot with water and lightning is incredible! I’m touched by this rehearsal!

Eurovision 2022: Norway’s Second Rehearsal!

The second country to rehearse for the second time is Norway with their wolves! This staging is very similar to the performances we’ve seen from Subwoolfer at MGP and the Eurovision parties – Keith and Jim are supported by three backing dancers in yellow suits and DJ astronaut is overseeing proceedings from their elevated pulpit. We know some people think Subwoolfer are a novelty act, but we beg to differ – it’s a really polished routine and both Keith and Jim deliver great vocal performances. The dance routine is PRECISION.

About the Second Rehearsal

The performance is very slick and polished. They managed to use the MGP text that’s visible for TV viewers only. The Astronaut is in front of the kinetic sun and Subwoolfer are joined by three backup dancers. Vocally an amazing performance. This is so going to be loved by audience, still not sure how juries will react to this. The camera angles are perfect! The third performance of this semi-final that could do very well (after Ukraine and Greece). Very memorable!

Eurovision 2022: Iceland’s Second Rehearsal!

We’re starting the day with the Icelandic trio – Systur and they’re ready for their second rehearsal! They’re performing 14th on May 10 during the First Semi-Final! Systur’s song Með Hækkandi Sól means ‘with the rising sun’, so it’s literally the morning after a night of Austrian techno. Some more super-stylish retro outfits – the sixties and seventies are VERY big in the costume department this year. This performance has some beautiful harmonies, and the glittery graphics make it feel quite magical. 100% would attend this Icelandic family gathering. This is what we found out after the first rehearsal!

About Iceland’s Second Rehearsal

The performance is similar to what we saw during the Iceland National Selection – Songvakeppnin. It starts from a very gorgeous angle showing the water and then showing the Iceland trio. Looks very polished and beautiful. Unlike Songvakeppnin performance it’s more shiny, as NF performance was mysterious. They managed to create a magical atmosphere and the camera angles are on point. Smoke was missing, in my personal opinion. The camera angles are on point though!

Eurovision 2022: Portugal’s Second Rehearsal!

Last country to get on stage before the final and smaller break for today is Portugal. Maro, who wrote her first song at the song of 11, with her team performed in a circle formation on the B stage right in front of the Green Room during their first rehearsal. The staging had also a graphic backdrop that added some swirly colour. The performance of the first rehearsal could be described as simple, beautiful and relaxing. Portugal is just outside of the top 10 in the odds, but with their second rehearsal, they will try to sneak in the odds’ favourites.

The Second Rehearsal

Portugal’s rehearsal starts with dark lighting and atmospheric vibe. Maro and the backup singers are arranged circlularly on stage B. The performance starts with close shots on Maro. There are not much differences from the national selection’s performance. All the artists are standing up and clapping at various parts during the act. The main colours of the staging are blue and purple, while there is a little green in the backround at the end. They manage to create an emotional and magical atmosphere and the camera angles are on point.

Eurovision 2022: Austria’s Second Rehearsal!

Coming up is Austria with LUM!X and Pia Maria singing their song ‘Halo’. Their first rehearsal included a huge circular neon lighting rig that surrounds the two austrian artists and huge dance energy from inside their own personal halo. The staging also features flames and smoke jets. The lead singer had some singing difficulties during the pre-parties. Will they convince with their second rehearsal?

The Second Rehearsal

Austria’s rehearsal is done with the help of a huge ring that consists of smaller rings, which have perimeters with lights. These lights turn on and off based on the viewing result the austrian delegation wants. Both artists are inside this ring and stay in it. The performance starts with LUM!X cheering up the crowd. There are enough shots in the crowd as well. LUM!X stays in the center of the ring doing dj moves and he his role in the performance is to cheer the audience. There are many close camera angles to Pia Maria, who dances and enjoys the song. In the bridge they clap, as in the official video clip. The performance ends with both artists looking at the camera. There is wide use of prerecorded vocals. Pia Maria has great make up with much glitter in the eyes. Her hair is pigtails. Both artists are wearing black and the backround is mostly red and black, but during the bridge turns into blue. Pia Maria is giving a high note in the bridge, but in general is vocally weak. The audience is going to love this act.

Smoke during the first second chorus is added on the third run.

Pyro is also added in the bridge and the last chorus of the third run.

Eurovision 2022: Denmark’s Second Rehearsal!

Next up is Denmark. The band REDDI, a Danish/Swedish pop-rock band made up of Siggy on vocals, Ida on bass, Agnes on guitar, and Ihan on drums, brought some retro styling during their first rehearsal. Their staging also features block neon colours on the graphic backdrop, a bonus key change and on-stage fireworks. REDDI is ready to to come on stage once again, in order to rehearse for second time.

The Second Rehearsal

REDDI’s rehearsal hasn’t got much differences from the national selection’s one. The rehearsal starts with the lead singer playing the piano. At first, the face of the singer is inverted as we see the reflection of the lead singer on the surface of the piano. The camera stays near to the face of the singer without changing. It is worth mentioning that the first two shots are more than 20 seconds long! As the tempo of the song hits, the lead singer stands up and goes in the center of the stage, where she finds the rest members of the group. In the floor LED screen it is written the band’s name and the colour of the floor changes to many different colours. During the song, the singer leans on towards other group members and interacts with them. In the bridge, the camera angles are on the members of the group playing the intruments they are holding. The performance is full of colours and good vibes. The performance ends with a distant shoot and a burst of light in the stage.

Fireworks were added during the third run.

Below you can watch an exclusive preview clip of REDDI’s second rehearsal:

Eurovision 2022: Croatia’s Second Rehearsal!

The final run of countries for today begins with Croatia. Mia Dimšić entered on stage on Sunday for her first rehearsal wearing a hot pink gown with flamenco ruffles. She was accompanied by three contemporary dancers who provided some lyrical storytelling with lots of movement. Croatia is considered one of the dark horses for qualifying to the Saturday’s Grand Final. Will she grab the attention with her second rehearsal?

The Second Rehearsal

Croatia is telling a romantic story through the staging. Except Mia there are 2 male dancers and 1 female. Croatia’s rehearsal begins with Mia having a dark blue lighting falling on her. The stage is dark and there are small dotted lights in the backround like stars. There are enough close shots on Mia. Then, the lights turns into white and Mia is visible. She gives some looks on the dancers and interacts with them. Mia takes some steps and looks at one male and one female dancer holding hands. She is having some more interactions with the male dancer. The bridge starts with a shot on the waterfall that ends up on Mia. The LED floor, as also the sun LED backround are also blue. In the final part of the song, the dancers run around her and the performance finishes with her becoming shadowed. Blue and pink are the key colours of the staging. The staging is atmospheric, romantic and Mia is vocally good. Overall, the staging is based on the interactions of Mia with the dancers.

At the end of the first run she complains about hearing problems.

In the bridge and the last chorus of the second run Mia sang the Croatian version. After the end of the second run she complains again about hearing problems. She confirms to the crew that she will sing the final part of the song in Croatian.

She also sings the final part of the song in Croatian in the third run.
