Spain: Chanel will join Noa Kirel tomorrow at Tel Aviv!

The sold-out performance by Noa Kirel last night in Tel Aviv’s Yarakon Park was attended by an estimated 65,000 people. Noa demonstrated her incredible talent as a singer and performer not only to Israel but also to Europe. Eleni Foureira, a much-anticipated guest performer, sang her Eurovision-hit song “Fuego” with Noa during the concert, thrilling the audience.

Due to the concert’s overwhelming success and the fact that all of the tickets were sold out right away, Noa’s team decided to hold a second concert on September 23.

The concert is anticipated to be just as thrilling as yesterday’s event and will provide the audience with another pleasant surprise. Reliable sources claim that Noa’s team invited Chanel to perform with her tomorrow. Chanel was the Spanish representative in Eurovision 2022 and appears to have accepted the invitation to perform live tomorrow in Tel Aviv.

Chanel, as well as Eleni Foureira and Noa Kirel, caused pandemonium with her performance skills along with her latin rhythm and temperament in 2022, bringing Spain back to the top three for the first time since 1995.

Through the occasion of her concerts, Noa Kirel had the opportunity to share the stage with Eurovision performers that set the bar high, a bar that she overcame, and performers with whom she was also inevitably compared.

Spain: The dates of Benidorm Fest 2024 – Artists to be announced on 11 November!

We may be less than ten months away from the next Eurovision Song Contest, but preparations are already underway for Spain. This afternoon, the press conference for Benidorm Fest 2024, Spain‘s national selection for Eurovision, took place.

Dates of the festival

During the press conference the dates of Benidorm Fest 2024 were also revealed. As in the previous two years, it will include two semi-finals on the following dates:

  • First Semi-Final: 30 January 2024
  • Second Semi-Final: 1 February 2024

The participants who qualify from the two semi-finals will compete in the Grand Final on 3 February to represent Spain in Malmö.

Participants’ announcement and changes

The announcement of the 16 Benidorm Fest participants will be made on 11 November as part of the Latin Grammy Awards, which this year will be hosted in Seville under the auspices of RTVE and TelevisaUnivision.

Benidorm Fest is evolving and growing year after year. The number of entries submitted to date has far exceeded the number of entries of the previous two years.

The evolution of Benidorm Fest is also reflected in the recruitment of a music camp in September. This will give artists the opportunity to meet and compose songs which may or may not end up competing at Benidorm Fest.

Spanish interest in Eurovision is growing, and it seems that they now want to win more than ever before.

Spain: Ruth Lorenzo expresses her frustration on a participation on Benidorm Fest 2024!

Despite her strong interest, Ruth Lorenzo has decided not to take part in Benidorm Fest 2024. The singer who represented Spain at Eurovision 2014 has revealed that she was considering taking part in the next RTVE national final, but this year’s rules will prevent her from doing so.

Through her social media accounts, the singer explained that she wanted to participate with her song “Woman”, one of the tracks of her latest EP. In order to be able to compete, she decided to remove it from her album, before its release on April 14.

However there was a change in plans. Ruth Lorenzo said:

“I was informed, unofficially, that this year at Benidorm Fest they were going to accept 100% songs in English.

Being the most important song of this EP, with the most important message and with a sound that marks a before and after in my career, I wanted to give you the gift of presenting it at Benidorm Fest trying to return to Eurovision after ten years. Unfortunately, “Woman” was not chosen to compete at the Festival.”

The track is set to be released on September 1st, and she considers it very important to her now that she is in a new phase of her life where she is 100% free after overcoming her problems with her previous record company.

“I am now establishing myself, as an independent label for future work”

Benidorm Fest rules allow song lyrics to be mainly in Spanish and/or another official language, however, lyrics in other languages are acceptable as long as they do not exceed 40% of the total lyrics.

The previous winner of Benidorm Fest and Spain’s representative at Eurovision 2023, was Blanca Paloma with the song “EaEa” and placed 17th in the Grand Final:

Spain: Sandra Valero will represent the country on Junior Eurovision 2023!

Sandra Valero will represent Spain at Junior Eurovision 2023, which will take place in Nice, France on November 26!

Spain has chosen its representative internally once again, among hundreds of children. She is a young girl with immense talent, which led her to participate in many television competitions.

Sandra will show all her talent on the Junior Eurovision stage in Nice on November 26. Right now RTVE is busy finding the most suitable song for her. In September, the music video of her song will be shot, which RTVE must deliver to th EBU by October 16.

Spain: Blanca Paloma’s participation costed RTVE an all-time high of 800.000 euros!

Eurovision 2023 is over and it is time for the national broadcasters to review their participation costs. Spain after last year’s huge success in Eurovision with Chanel and an extraordinary 3rd place, invested in Eurovision 2023 more than it has ever done before.

Specifically, the participation costs for 2023 were planned to amount to 732.940 euros, a budget that was not adhered to and rose to 810.978,22 euros, a 10,65% increase.

The internal expenses costed 149.728,71, instead of 73.547,09 euros that were estimated at first. The external expenses, which also included travel and accommodation costs rose to 661.249,54 euros.

The above-mentioned costs included the participation and transmission fees, as well as the production of the videoclip, the stage performance and personnel costs.

It is indeed a much higher budget spent in comparison with the past editions and actually the highest ever recorded, with the participations of Chanel(2022) and Miki Núñez(2019) following.

No matter the interest and the high budget spent by RTVE, Blanca Paloma did not manage to repeat Chanel’s success and instead finished last in the televoting and 17th overall.

Regardless the Spanish fans’ disenchantment, the Grand Final of Eurovision 2023 noted the highest ratings since 2011 and there seems to be no criticism from the Spanish press to RTVE, because of its policy to allocate huge funds to many of its programs and Eurovision having a much wider audience and TV ratings than those.
