Eurovision 2023: Cyprus’ First Rehearsal!

Last but definitely not least for today’s rehearsals is Andrew Lambrou with his song “Break A Broken Heart” representing Cyprus!

But who is Andrew Lambrou ?

Andrew Lambrou was born in Sydney, Australia and he is of Greek-Cypriot descent. Although he is just 24 years old his presence on TikTok is spectacular, since his profile on this social platform has gathered more than 700,000 followers.

He started to play music at the age of 5, when he was enrolled at the music school of AMS where he learned how to play the piano. One of his talents was his capabiity of listening to a song and then playing it on his own by heart. Soon he realized that he had to fulfill his musical destiny after having already won the first place in a competition singing the song “Doh A Deer”, still at the age of five. His own parents encouraged his inclination towards music throughout his life, while he attended musical classes at “LaVoce” Music School, where Marc Villagra was his vocal coach.

Andrew Lambrou currently lives in Sydney, Australia where he composes and performs his own songs, while he has also taken part in “The X Fctor of Australia”, “Australia’s Got Talent” and “The Voice of Australia”.

The rehearsal

Inspired by the elements of the earth, from the abyss to the catharic waters of the waterfall, we end up to lava and fire for a rebirth.

This is a great way to end what has been a brilliant second day of rehearsals. Break A Broken Heart is a powerful, heartfelt ballad with a marching drumbeat that’s vibrating through the Liverpool Arena floor – Andrew’s vocal is sublime, and there’s something electrifying about the way this song builds from the first big note to an even bigger finish. The LED backdrop transitions from waterfall to flames, and the whole thing is a massive Monday afternoon MOOD. Surely there’s some pyro incoming?

Cyprus has floor smoke AND four banks of flames – the first real flames of the contest!

Cyprus: “I’m gonna play with fire” said Andrew!

With the first technical rehearsals for the 37 participating countries starting today, EurovisionFun is here covering every rehearsal and providing you with information about everything that is going on in Liverpool.

Our YouTube live videos are also back and in today’s live video we had a special guest. It was no other than Andrew Lambrou, this year’s Cypriot representative.

Check out what Andrew Lambrou shared with us:

I wanna start of just by saying a big “Thank you!” to you guys for the support you have been giving me throughout this whole process. It really does mean a lot to me and those things shine through. All the positivity around me means so much. I know you have been doing a lot and I appreciate all the work that you put in.

I’m feeling very good! I’m excited for tomorrow! Tomorrow is the day I’ve been waiting for a very long time. I get to see everything put together on the stage and I just can’t wait and I’m hoping that the world enjoys it too.

Can you tell anything about tomorrow?

I can say one thing to you…We’re gonna be playing with fire!

We have heard that it will be really impressive.

Yes, this is the goal. We want to bring everything to life and I want this to be a special moment to everyone, including myself and for Cyprus and for all Eurovision fans

So what’s the goal?

The goal.. I’ll be honest with you. We know that Eurovision is about uniting the world. It always does. The slogan this year is “United By Music”.It’s a competition, but my goal is to go out there and give absolutely everything, to perform from here, to perform with meaning and whatever will be after that will be. I’m just focused on walking off that stage and feeling proud of myself and hoping that everyone can feel that sense of proudness too.

One last question! Will Australia give 12 points to Andrew this year?

We gonna have to wait and see. But I must say I’m also feeling a lot from Australia too, which is super special to me. And we’ll find out soon.

In the end, we wished the Cypriot representative together with the audience watching the live show the best of luck, to make all Greeks proud with his performance.

In the video below you can watch the short interview to Andrew Lambrou from 18:26.

Tomorrow takes place the first rehearsal of Cyprus, and we will find out what the Cypriot delegation had been preparing all those months. Cyprus competes from spot number 6 of the Second Semi-Final on 11th of May.

Cyprus: Andrew Lambrou’s song will be published in January!

Andrew Lambrou gave an interview to Melina Karageorgiou, in CyBC’s central newscast. Andrew was really excited for his first time in Cyprus, right after the recording of his song, he continues preparations for Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool. This year we won’t have to wait a lot, as according to his saying, the Cypriot entry will be published in January!

As it seems, we are going to listen Cyprus’ entry for 2023, much earlier than usual. The song with which Andrew Lambrou will represent the country in Eurovision 2023 will be published in January!

After finishing the recording of his song the previous days in Stockholm and signing with PANIK Records in Athens, Andrew is now in Cyprus, where he is invited on many Cypriot TV shows, while of course preparing for the contest.

Being here in Cyprus makes me feel like home, I’m really close to my legacy… it is amazingrepresenting Cyprus in Eurovision! It’s a dream for me! I love Eurovision, since I was a kid.

Andrew’s goal is to make all Cypriots proud. As for his song, Andrew seems excited and is looking forward to show it to the public:

When I first listened to my song I knew it was unique… And then I was in Sweden, I had an amazing recording session in the studio and I’m really happy with what we did.

Cyprus: Andrew Lambrou is in Stockholm for the recording of his Eurovision entry!

Andrew Lambrou arrived in snowy Stockholm in order to record the song with which he will compete in the 67th Eurovision Song Contest.

The representative of Cyprus in Eurovision 2023 and RIK, the Cypriot public broadcaster, have really entered into rhythm for Eurovision, since unlike this year when the decisions were made at a fairly advanced stage, this time everyone’s wishes are to have time ahead of them, so that there is also the most appropriate preparation.

Andrew Lambrou left his native Australia, which has summer these months, in order to come to Stockholm, where today snowed for the first time this year.

Delighted, Andrew uploaded a short video from snowy Stockholm, saying that it is his first experience in such cold, but also in snow!

According to what was conveyed to us by the Cypriot delegation, Andrew Lambrou’s trip to Stockholm has to do with the recording of the song, with which he will represent his country in the Eurovision contest. This practically means that the song is already selected. More details about the creators have yet to be announced, but the fact that he is in Stockholm for the recording makes us believe that Swedish musicians will sign the Cypriot entry to Eurovision 2023.

Immediately after the end of the recording, Andrew Lambrou will come for a few days to Athens and then to Cyprus, where he will give interviews and be present in the country’s media.

Evangelia: “I’m sending in a song for Eurovision 2023”!

As we have already revealed, the Greek artists’ interest in participating in Eurovision 2023 is particularly strong! And while the first rumours have already begun to spread, we already have the first official confirmation from none other than Evangelia, a promising young artist who came into vogue the last couple of years!

Evangelia, whose music fuses Greek folk sounds, with (mostly American) pop elements, has already pulled of hits, such as “Páme Páme”, “Fotiá”, and “Ónira”. Also, the new video clip for her song, “Paradise”, was recently released.

The singer, who grew up in New Jersey, USA, and is originally from Crete, said in an Instagram live on her personal account, talking to Adem Kavaz (a Turkish Cypriot Eurovision fan) that she “wants to represent Greece or Cyprus in ESC” and “she will submit a song for Eurovision 2023”.

The Instagram video is not available, but it will be published soon on Adem Kavaz’s blog and youtube channel .

It is not the first time that Evangelia will seek to take part in ESC, since last year she reportedly submitted three songs, (one of which was “Ónira”), to represent Greece, which, however, did not go through the second stage of evaluation by the selection committee. Evangelia also sought to represent Cyprus in the 2022 ESC.

Would you like to see Evangelia at Eurovision 2023? Stay tuned for any updates!

Cyprus: It’s final | Cyprus’ representative for Eurovision 2023 will not be selected through “All Together Now”!

As we previously reported as the most plausible scenario, has now become almost certain; All Together Now will not be used as the method of selection for the artist that will represent Cyprus in Eurovision 2023.

The trailer of the talent show that will be broadcast through Alpha TV (Greek free-to-air channel) and will be presented by Nikos Koklonis, is already on air, without a single reference to Eurovision or the possibility of the winner representing Cyprus in the upcoming competition.

Further to this, according to our exclusive information, “All Together Now” is scheduled to be aired in the second half of the year, since another show (“J2US”), will be broadcast instead in the first half. The preparation required for All Together Now is quite extensive and the production team could not make it in time to have the artist selected for Eurovision. Have in mind that additional time is anyway required for choosing an appropriate song.

However, the plans of Nikos Kokloni’s production company (“Barking Well Media”) for a talent show through which the winner will also get the ticket for the Eurovision Song Contest are not altogether abandoned. So, and if “All Together Now” gets the green light for a second season, we might see it return in the fall of 2023, for the selection of the Cyprus’ representative for Eurovision 2024.

Based on the above and without anything being a foregone conclusion, the most likely scenario is that CYBC will choose both the song and the artist by direct assignment, as in the previous years.

Stay tuned for updates on the matter!
