Netherlands: The Voice of Holland winner, Dany, will submit a song for Eurovision 2023!

Dani van Velthoven, better known to his fans simply as Dany, claimed to have been among the last acts standing during the Dutch internal selection for Eurovision 2022. “The Voice of Holland” winner said in an interview that he, alongside S10, was one of the four acts that remained on AVROTROS shortlist.

In an interview with local radio programme De Zaterdagochtend, Dany discussed his short Eurovision 2022 journey. Saying that he “didn’t sign anything”, he explained:

“Last year they approached me for Eurovision. They asked me and then I submitted a song, and then I was in the final four. I some advice because everything was so new back then. Now I’m a year ahead, but in terms of my position, my contract, I’m not ahead at all. And that is starting to change. Now I can choose a team to have around me, who can help me with such things. I think when I will have all that, it will be better to deal with Eurovision.”

Dany talking about the contest said:

“It’s a dream to go to Eurovision, but I want to do it with a good song. I’ve been watching since I was a kid and everything it stands for is what I love about music. But last time I had a track that didn’t sound exactly like I wanted, and I also have more experience now.”

Answering whether he will submit a song again, he said:

“I’m going to submit a song, that’s all I can say, that I’m going to apply. But I’m not focusing too much on that this year. I’d rather build my team and get my career in order, then if I do Eurovision and everything goes more smooth, it’ll be a lot more fun and I guess I’ll do a lot better.”

Eurovision 2022: The Dress Rehearsal of the First Semi Final! (Live)

Today is the first day of the Eurovision week! We can already hear the “Sound of Music” echoing from Pala Olimpico in Turin and it’s just a few days before we finally know who is actually going to win the 66th Eurovision Song Contest!

The dress rehearsal of the Eurovision 2022 First Semi Final has just started. EurovisionFun will be watching all the shows live at both the on-site press centre in Turin and at the online press centre and we will be covering this rehearsal, commenting on all the performances and describing in detail what is happening during the show.

Eurovision 2022: Netherlands’ Second Rehearsal!

Next up is Netherlands. S10, a 21 years old singer, rapper and songwriter, wears a very stylish black dinner jacket that’s cropped at the front but has long tails at the back. Her staging is a smoky plinth and some dramatic lighting, and it delivers real impact. The Dutch delegation seemed very happy with the first rehearsal. Unfortunately, the betting odds didn’t seem same as happy based on the little information we got about S10’s staging. Will the delegation convince with their second rehearsal?

The Second Rehearsal

Netherlands’ rehearsal begins with a shot from above moving towards S10 with herself being shadowed. At first, there is light only on S10. The stage floor has a square white linear light and S10 is standing on its center. There are many close shots on S10’s face. In the first chorus there is a small light burst and white lights are moving slowly from the sun structure behind. In the second verse the ‘sun’ turns from black to white, while towards the end the bottom half of it turns into a yellow sea. At the start of the second verse S10 is shadowed again, as opposite to the white sun behind. In the second chorus the lights behind are moving a bit faster and become more reddish. S10 is vocally good. At the final part of the song, she takes a few steps forward and we have wider shots. There are red to white lights coming out from the sun. Black and white colors are characteristic. There is no use of the backround LED screen. Generally Netherlands’ performance focuses a lot on the lights and S10 herself. The performance is atmospheric, melancholic, but relaxing. S10 passes through succesfully the emotions she wants. The performance ends with close shots on S10’s face and a shot from above moving again towards S10.

The Netherlands: Jeangu Macrooy will compete with Grow in the 23rd place of the final

The draw for the Eurovision 2020 final was held in the Netherlands. Jeangu Macrooy was particularly lucky after the Dutch chief of staff pulled the N.23.

As you know, the order of appearance in both the final and the semifinals is determined by the organizers and approved by the EBU. The only draw being held is whether you will compete in the first or second half.

The exception to the above is the order of appearance of the organizing country, which is always determined by lottery, including all possible seats. From 1 to 26.

Eurovision 2020: Got your ticket?Make it personal

The first wave of ticket sales for the upcoming Eurovision 2020 event in Rotterdam, The Netherlands began at noon yesterday, with Babet Verstappen, the PR manager of the contest, announcing that most of the tickets were purchased by Dutch and British.

Ticket availability began at 12:00 CET  yesterday, and within 20 minutes all tickets were sold, with the number reaching 23,000. As expected, the Dutch are in the first place, followed by the British and Belgians in the second and third place,respectively. The contest in the Netherlands seems to have prompted neighbors to secure tickets to watch the 65th Eurovision Song Contest.

These tickets included 9 total shows, both for the three live broadcast nights, as well as for the family shows and jury nights. But for the lucky ones who caught up and bought the coveted piece of paper to enjoy some of the shows at Ahoy Arena, the process doesn’t end there.

The organization committee of this year’s Eurovision, as it were reasonable, to avoid the “black market” of tickets, that is to say the sale of tickets at higher prices, initially restricts the maximum number of tickets available to 4 per person and in addition, demands another procedure: the personalisation of ticket.

Ticket personalization procedure

Upon payment of the ticket, each buyer receives a confirmation email at the same time receives another email requesting further personal information, such as the full name, e-mail address and date of birth of each attendee. Once someone has completed filling in these personal details, he will then receive his regular ticket. IMPORTANT: Ticket personalization runs from December 13th to December, 12:00 CET time to December 20th 23:59 CET time. If one fails to complete this procedure within the set deadline, then he loses his ticket and receives a refund.

Two more set of tickets

Of course, tickets for Europe’s biggest music contest weren’t sold out yesterday, but for those who didn’t get a ticket, there will be two more “wave” of tickets. According to the Dutch public broadcaster NOS, which is helping to organize the competition, there will be fewer tickets for the next two phases of ticket sales, estimated at around 20,000 at each stage.

The number of tickets for the third phase will come after the stage design and installation of the necessary equipment for the competition has been completed. It is estimated that in all three phases, about 65,000 tickets will be sold.

Tickets will go on sale again in late January, but also in mid-March. The exact dates will be announced at a later stage.

 

Beware of ticket purchases

Particularly cautious must be those who intend to buy tickets to view the contest closely, with the official Eurovision channel urging buyers to visit only the official ticket sales pages (Paylogic and Ticketswap).

Eurovision 2020: Sietse Bakker: “Eurovision final may last less”

An interesting interview was given by Eurovision 2020’s executive producer, Sietse Bakker. Speaking at singfestival.bg, he revealed several aspects of the Dutch organizers’ preparation, but also expressed his conviction that unlike his two semifinal contests, the big final lasts long, given that it is always a television program. At the end of the interview, Sietse Bakker said that while he had never been interested in the position of executive supervisor of the contest, he did not rule out the possibility of seeing him succeed Jon Ola Sand.

It was a complete cycle
Prior to taking over as executive producer of Eurovision 2020, Sietse, with his own website designing company, had worked with the EBU on numerous occasions and even served as Supervisor Event. In 2016 he decided to stop. “The first Eurovision Song Contest I attended was in Stockholm, so when it was in Stockholm again in 2016, it was a complete one for me. It was time to quit the competition and get more involved in my own business”.

It all started for one girl 
“It all started when I tried to impress a girl from another class who was a big fan of the competition,” Sietse said when asked where his interest in the competition came from. “I wanted to impress her by making a website mentioning the contest, ESCToday. After attending the Eurovision Song Contest in Riga for the first time in 2003, I was addicted and in the meantime our site had become very big. He didn’t work with the girl, but it was the beginning of my career. “

Proud Dutchman
The Netherlands had a hard time competing, so when asked how Sietse lived up to Duncan’s victory, he said: “AVROTROS has built this beautifully from 2013 onwards, from Anouk to Duncan now winning. Of course this makes us proud, but it’s also a weird feeling. I’m part of the team that has ultimate responsibility is a complete honor, but it’s a very difficult job”.

The final may last less
The most important news that comes out of the interview is Sietse Bakker’s phrase about the duration of the final: “The semifinals are relatively short, but it is true that the final takes a long time and can be less long”.

Does this mean that we will see a shorter broadcast of the Eurovision final, coming to Rotterdam in May? It is worth noting here that the duration of its final competition in recent years is approximately three and a half hours.

Happy with the hosts
“We didn’t find the presenters overnight. We’ve been working since July on who could present it. Everything came to mind: from presenters to singers, actors and dancers. After several meetings, this combination is the best result and we are very proud of this trio “.

More news about hotels coming soon
Sietse Bakker had, of course, to respond to the high hotel prices during the competition. High hotel prices are a problem for many Eurovision fans who would like to watch the event up close. “We have booked 3,000 rooms in the bidding phase, for which we will soon publish more news. Successor to Jon Ola Sand?

Eurovision 2020: EUR 12.4 million for Eurovision 2020 from the dutch government

In today’s announcement, the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education and Media, Arie Slob, said that the Dutch government will give 12.4m euros to hold the Eurovision song contest in Rotterdam in May.

The budget was accepted by the ministry at the request of the Dutch public broadcaster NPO, one of the country’s three public channels, which will contribute to the production of the contest.

Both the Grand Final and the two semifinals are estimated to cost around 26.5m euros. The NRO is committed to 2.5 million, AVROTROS will cover 2 million, and the 9.6 million will be covered by both the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), sponsors and sales of tickets.

Conditional cost coverage

In his report, the Minister has set the precondition for the delivery of money, such as the public channel to place particular emphasis on the access of people with mobility difficulties and the participation of students:

“I have placed particular emphasis on access to the Eurovision song contest by people with mobility problems. I suppose the NPO will pay particular attention to this issue. Also, the involvement of students in the whole process is essential. This was expressed as a clear wish by the House during the legislative consultation. I have informed the NPO and I want to make further arrangements on this “

He closed his report, hoping that “the Eurovision song contest will be a great success”.

“With the above contribution, I hope that the Eurovision song contest will be a great success. Its transmission will create national and international links, while helping to promote the Netherlands”

In a statement made to RTL Boulevard, NPO President Shula Rijxman welcomed the government’s contribution:
