Morocco: Normalizes diplomatic relations with Israel | First step to return to Eurovision?

Israel and Morocco are establishing diplomatic relations following a US-brokered deal last Thursday. Thus, Morocco becomes the fourth Arab country to normalize its relations with the “eternal enemy”, Israel.

After the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Sudan, Morocco becomes the fourth Arab country to sign a peace agreement with Israel in recent months, something truly unprecedented in world history. However, apart from the great historical significance of this event, the way may be opened for Morocco to return to the Eurovision Song Contest.

Morocco is the only Arab country that has ever participated in the competition. In 1980, taking advantage of Israel’s absence, took part in that year’s Eurovision Song Contest. The representative of Morocco in the only participation of the country in the contest was the famous Moroccan singer Samira Said. Unfortunately, Bitaqat Hob, the song with which she participated, received only 7 points all from Italy and thus finished in 18th and penultimate place.

Without the problem of non-existent diplomatic relations with Israel, Morocco as a regular member of the EBU has the opportunity to take part in the contest. This problem of non-recognition of Israel by the entire Arab world led to Lebanon’s withdrawal from the 2004 contest after the country’s public broadcaster refused to broadcast Israel’s song, which was required by law since Lebanon did not recognizes Israel as a state entity.

Let us remember the unique participation of Morocco in the Eurovision Song Contest:

Estonia: Interview with Hans Nayna, candidate for Eesti Laul 2021!

Hans Nayna, originally from Mauritius, is among the candidates for Eesti Laul 2021, to represent Estonia at Eurovision 2021. We spoke with him shortly after the announcement of his song, One By One!

Hello Hans! Shorty after the announcement of the candidate songs for Eesti Laul 2021, we would like to tell us which is your favorite among them?

Estonia surprised me for having such good songwriters and music producers. Actually when you listen to it, there’s one song that really comes out. Tartu – Redel. It kinds of reminds me of the Joker’s Why so serious?

Let’s suppose that you will be the winner and you go to Eurovision. How do you imagine yourself in Rotterdam?

I see myself in the semi finals of Esti Laul which is actually much of a blessing for my carreer.. I would first try and get my feet into the finals, then we’ll talk…

Eurovision is a dream for you?

Eurovision was a surprise. A nice one!

What is the message of your song?

There’s that one thing that fascinates me about people. It’s like how much some of them can be awesome in their own way of doing things, how much they can hold on when things go wrong and how much will power they can put in what they believe.. Let’s say it’s an ode to people.

Can you reveal us some things for your performance in Eesti Laul semi finals? What we can expect from you?

At this point, you can expect me to be me. Always have been much of a band guy with my guitar all around but this time I am going down into the song and focus on the singing performance. Stagewise, have you watched the video clip?

Have you ever visited Greece?

No. Thriving to 🙂

Something you think the fans should know about you?

They should know that i have releases available, two full albums produced in Mauritius. So for those who want to know more would also like to know how fan i am of Sia, Jacob Banks and Dermot Kennedy.

Thank you Hans. Good luck

The semifinals of Eesti Laul 2021 will be held on February 18 and 20, while the grand Final on March 6, 2021.

France: Valentina performs J’Imagine live and the difference with Junior Eurovision is huge!

The winner of Junior Eurovision 2020 Valentina was invited to a show on French public broadcaster, on the night of Saturday 5/12, where she performed live J’Imagine.

As you will see in the video that follows, unfortunately Valentina’s live performance has nothing to do with her corresponding interpretation in the live on tape video, where she competed in Junior Eurovision 2020 a few days ago.

The EBU, answering an official question on Spanish delegation, said that all participants performed their entries live in the contest. However, yesterday’s live appearance of Valentina reinforces the accusations that some countries did not sing live, as as you will see and mainly hear, there is a big difference between the two interpretations.

Watch the video below and leave your own comments:

Was it a bad day for Valentina or did she really sing playback at Junior Eurovision 2020?

Estonia: Listen to the Eesti Laul 2021 entries!

Estonian public television recently released the 24 songs of Eesti Laul 2021. The semifinals of Eesti Laul 2021 will be held on February 18 and 20, while the grand Final on March 6, 2021.

You can listen to the songs by clicking on the song titles in the following list:

Unlike in previous years, Eesti Laul 2021 will take place entirely in the country’s capital, Tallinn. The semi-finals of the Estonian national final will take place in a TV studio, while it is still unknown whether the final will take place as usual in Saku Suurhall, or due to the pandemic it will be moved elsewhere. Presenter of Eesti Laul 2021 will be Tonis Niinemets.

Eesti Laul, as a method of selecting Estonian participation, has been applied since 2009. The winners of this institution have given the country some of its most successful participations – including: Urban Symphony (2009), Kuula (2012), La Forza (2018).

Let us remember once again the winning song of Uku Suviste at Eesti Laul 2020, composed by Dimitris Kontopoulos and Sharon Vaughn:

Cyprus: This is why Kalomira rejected CYBC’s proposal for Eurovision 2021!

The popular singer Kalomira gave an interview to the morning show of Open TV, Eytycheite to the journalist Giannis Poulopoulos.

In particular, she talked about her family and their life in America. Of course, she could not fail to mention Eurovision.

She spoke about Eurovision 2021 as her name was one of the first to fall on the table for the representation of Cyprus in Rotterdam.

She revealed:

It was a risk with the coronavirus to travel with the children. There I put the brake.

Would she go to Eurovision again in the future?

Yes, I would love to go to Eurovision in the future. The children have now grown up. I would like my children to see me on stage. They have not understood that I am a singer. They asked me why they were interviewing me.

Sweden: The favorites at Melodifestivalen 2021 according to the first odds!

Yes, you read that right, the odds for the winner of Melodifestivalen 2021 has already started in Sweden. The betting company Svenska Spel gives the first bettings for victory to the 28 artists that were announced a few hours ago on by SVT.

It is a given that in terms of names, Melodifestivalen 2021 is probably the strongest ever. There are five former winners, as well as many other candidates who have left significant successes in this contest.

Many take it for granted that the victory will be judged between Eric Saade and Danny Saucedo, having a repeat of the Melodifestivalen 2011, when Eric managed to prevail with Popular and then give Sweden a third place in the Eurovision Song Contest.

The bets agree with the surrounding atmosphere and have as their favorite the two 30-year-old artists, but giving the lead for the victory this time to Danny Saucedo! Following are the winners of this year’s Melodifestivalen The Mamas, followed by the winner of Pop Idol Tusse and then we meet Dotter and Charlotte Perrelli. The rest of the contestants have much lower odds. In fact, the betting difference between Danny and Eric is quite large.

Odds for Melodifestivalen winner at Svenska Spen, at 20.30 cet, 3/12:

Danny 3,45
Eric 5,50
The Mamas 8,40
Tusse 12,00
Dotter 13,00
Charlotte 17,00
Anton 20,00
Kadiatou 22,00
Paul Rey 22,00
Frida Green 25,00
Arvingarna 25,00
Alvaro 30,00
Emil 30,00
Sannex 40,00
Moustasch 40,00
Efraim 50,00
Patrik 50,00
Nathalie 60,00
Jessica 60,00
Lovad 60,00
Tess 60,00
Elisa 60,00
Lillasyster 75,00
Wahl & Sami 75,00
Klara 75,00
Clara 75,00
Julia 210,00
Eva & Ewa 210,00

Of course, all of the above are too early and reflect the dynamics of these names in the announcement of their candidacy in Melodifestivalen 2021. A lot will change on the way to the final on March 13, but maybe not… However last year, The Mamas were not among the first favorites and yet even with a difference of 1 point, were the ones who were crowned winners in the end!

Greece: This is how Stefania’s song for Eurovision 2021 will be decided! EXCLUSIVE

The time for decissions in Greece have arrived! In the coming days, ERT will announce the way it will choose the song with which Stefania will participate in the 65th Eurovision Song Contest. Eurovision Fun exclusively brings you the latest information.

Five songs for Stefania

As it has already become known, Stefania on her last trip to Athens, recorded five potential songs for Eurovision. Among them there is a song that the young singer and her team choose in order to be the song that will be the Greek entry in the contest.

The composers of these five songs, of course, are the same group that signed SUPERG!RL. Dimitris Kontopoulos, Sharon Vaughn and ARCADE.

ERT’s decision to select the song

In the coming days, the ERT team that deals with the contest, will meet once again, in order to make the final decisions on how to choose the Greek entry in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest.

According to all our exclusive information, the preferred solution is the internal choice. The new television data due to the pandemic, the time limits that are narrowing at a time when this year requires more time for the artistic team to prepare the live on tape video, but also the difficulties that exist in travel, made ERT revise the initial of her plans, which was to conduct an open selection.

The above practically means that a process similar to the one followed in the last two years will probably be chosen. Before one wonders why there is no an online process like the one in the Czech Republic or in part in Israel, the answer is that it is not possible at the moment. Stefania recorded 5 demos, they are not complete recordings. If this choice was hypothetically chosen, Stefania would have to come to Greece again in the next few days (to pass the necessary quarantine), complete the recordings and then proceed to the online voting. Another month would be wasted, while the candidate songs would have to be made public so early, something the artistic team does not want.

However, fortunately, and if the situation with the pandemic is brought under control, ERT intends even next year to hold a national final for the selection of the Greek entry, listening to the desire of many artists, but also fans.

ERT loves Eurovision and if we think about the shift of Greek public broadcaster to a commercial and entertainment program this year, we are optimistic that we will see beautiful things in the part that concerns the contest.

Israel: KAN tomorrow morning makes announcements for Eurovision 2021!

A while ago, through its social media, the Israeli public television KAN, revealed that on the morning of Wednesday, December 2, it will make announcements for Eurovision 2021!

Announcements from KAN

The local press reported that at the beginning of December we would have the opportunity to listen to Eden’s 10 candidate songs for Eurovision 2021. However, today’s post by KAN confuses us as it contains only 9 different photos. Are the songs finally only nine?

How will Israeli entry be selected?

The 10 candidate songs will be placed on an online platform, where the public will be able to vote for their favorite. Two of the ten songs will qualify in the final phase and with one more song qualifying as the favorite of the judges, essentially saving it from exclusion. In the final, there will be a similar vote deciding which of the three songs Eden will perform in Rotterdam.

It is recalled that as early as March, the KAN had announced that Eden Alene would represent Israel in 2021.

At the same time, there will be a new show entitled “Our Song for Eurovision / Hell: Our Song for Eurovision”, which will be broadcast from the end of January or the beginning of February. The contributors of each song will be announced after the selection of the final trio. Eden song will be announced through this show.

Will only the titles and credits be announced tomorrow or will the songs be released to the public? The controversial announcements of KAN will take place on Wednesday morning, at 09.00 cet.

Stay tuned to Eurovision Fun for all the answers!
