Spotify: Snap surpassed Måns Zelmerlöw’s Heroes, continuing its wild run!

We have already reported the fascinating story of Rosa Linn’s Snap, which despite its mediocre success in ESC, is doing great on the streaming platforms. For two days now, Snap is not only the most popular Eurovision 2022 song on Spotify, but has also managed to become the 7th most streamed song of the Contest, surpassing Måns Zelmerlöw’s Heroes.

Today, Snap has managed to muster 147 million streams, 4,5 million more than the ESC 2015’s winning song, and the former’s run doesn’t seem to be stopping there. The table below illustrates the dynamics of the song, which is now in the 18th position of the Global Spotify Chart, being on said Chart for more than 60 days.

Therefore, and despite the admittedly small loss of momentum on the platform (38,607 less streams compared to the previous week), it is almost certain that the Armenia’s song in ESC 2022, is threatening more popular Eurovision songs on Spotify.

And while the two most popular Eurovision songs (Arcade and Zitti e buoni) are considered a rather unattainable goal, the same cannot be said for Soldi, which has 207 million streams, 60 million more than Snap. By rough calculations, and provided that Rosa Linn’s song won’t lose much of its momentum, Snap is likely to surpass Soldi and become the 3rd most popular Eurovision song within the next two months.

Billboard Hot 100

Two weeks ago Snap managed to be placed in the 97th position on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming only the second Eurovision song in the 21st century (after Arcade) to do so. Unfortunately for Rosa Linn, her song’s run on the Hot 100 didn’t last for more than a week. The entrance into Hot 100, as well as its ranking, is dependent on the number of streams through streaming platforms, sales, and airplay in the US.

Worldwide iTunes Song Chart

Despite maintaining momentum on Spotify, Snap appears to be losing ground on iTunes. And while a week ago the song had reached the 7th position on the Worldwide iTunes Song Charts, today it’s ranked 13th, having a slightly downward trend.

The dynamics of TikTok

Snap’s success seems to be related to the even greater singer’s success on TikTok. Prior to the Competition, Rosa Linn had, on her personal TikTok account, 5k followers and 85k likes. Today, her followers amount to 555k and her likes to 9.5 million!

It is not the first time that TikTok has been used as a springboard by Eurovision artists. The most typical example, perhaps, is Duncan Laurence’s “Arcade”, the winning song of ESC 2019, which, after its delayed success on TikTok, has today exceeded 900 mil. streams, becoming the most successful Eurovision song on Spotify.

Thus, despite the (justified) reactions expressed this year by fans, journalists and correspondents of the ESC, the strategic partnership between the EBU and TikTok (with the latter taking on the role of “Official Entertainment Partner” for Eurovision 2022) does not appear to be an one-off collaboration.

How far do you think Rosa Linn’s Snap can go? Will it manage to overtake Soldi on Spotify or will it run out of gas somewhere along the way?

Rosa Linn enters Top 10 of Worldwide Itunes Chart

Rosa Linn continues her success beyond her Eurovision participation.  The song Snap has entered the charts in more than 30 different countries, even outside of Europe.  Moreover, Snap reached the top 10 in the Austrian, Dutch, Swiss, Irish, Swedish and Norwegian charts.  The single was even number 1 in Belgium and in the UK indie charts.

Snap has got more than 100 million Streams on Spotify, a record that only 10 Eurovision songs have so far.  After surpassing the Italian song “Brividi”, Snap became the most streamed song from the Eurovision Song Contest 2022!

Last month Snap achieved another milestone once again when it entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States.  This marks the second Eurovision entry in the 21st century and the 12th Eurovision song that have gone this far.  However, the good news for Rosa Linn have not stopped there.

Today Snap entered the Top 10 of the Worldwide iTunes Song Charts, going up five places since last week:

Rosa Linn represented Armenia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 where she finished in 20th place.  However, as the news show her final result did not have a negative impact on her career.  On the opposite, her participation in Turin gave her enough exposure to further launch her career.

Rosa Linn signed a record deal with Columbia Records, one of the biggest music labels in the world that also features world stars like Adele, BTS or Harry Styles.

Eurovision 2023: The new season has just started!

For many, including us on Eurovisionfun, Eurovision never ends! However, September 1st is a special date. Any song that is released after that date is eligible to be chosen to take part in the next years contest. Therefore, any song from now on can be a potential Eurovision 2o23 entry!

What we know so far

After the landslide victory of Ukraine and Kalush Orchestra in Turin, EBU has already announced that due to the ongoing war since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the contest will be held in the United Kingdom instead, to ensure safety of everyone involved in the production.

During August, BBC announced a shortlist of seven cities that will compete to host the contest next year, while the deadline to submit the finalized bids is set for September 8th. BBC and EBU representatives will visit these cities to inspect the facilities and discuss with local authorities on the proposed bids.

Around late September/early October and after there is potentially a dialogue with the British government, BBC and EBU will announce the Eurovision 2023 hosting city.

The shortlisted cities are:

  • Birmingham
  • Glasgow
  • Leeds
  • Liverpool
  • Manchester
  • Newcastle
  • Sheffield

Betting odds are every year a topic of discussion within and outside the Eurovision fandom. As of the time of writing, the odds about which city will host Eurovision 2023 predict Glasgow as the hosting city, with 65% chances, indicating a one-horse race for the hosting of the contest next year.

Participating countries

As of now, 27 countries have officially or unofficially confirmed that they will take part in Eurovision 2023. These are:

  • Albania
  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Cyprus
  • Denmark
  • Estonia
  • Finland
  • France
  • Georgia
  • Germany
  • Greece
  • Iceland
  • Israel
  • Italy
  • Latvia
  • Lithuania
  • Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Poland
  • Romania
  • San Marino
  • Serbia
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland
  • Ukraine
  • United Kingdom

Within the next months more countries are expected to confirm their participation, with the goal to have 40 countries as in 2022. Russia and Belarus are not eligible to take part in the contest, since their broadcasters are not EBU members anymore.

Certain countries have already announced that they will not take part in Eurovision 2023, with some of them extending their long-lasting absence from the contest. Andorra, Monaco, Luxemburg, Liechtenstein, Slovakia, Maroco and Hungary will not be present in the 67th Eurovision Song Contest, while Turkey and Bosnia-Herzegovina are yet to announce their plans but the chances to see them returning are low for various reasons.

Until March 14th the announcement of all the entries

It won’t be before March 14th until we know all competing artists and entries for 2023, since on that day is the meeting of the Head of Delegations where all entries will be officially submitted. However, Israel has already selected its artist and its Noa Kirel, a local superstar with many of her songs conquering the charts.

Albania and Ukraine will be the next to select their entries before the end of 2022, unless there is a surprise as with Czech Republic last year.

Armenia: Rosa Linn’s Snap on the Billboard’s Hot 100!

She may not have managed to send Eurovision to Yerevan, but there has been one success after another for 22-year-old Rosa Linn and her song “Snap”. Just days after passing “Brividi” in total streams, it has now entered the US Billboard Hot 100 charts at No. 97!

Billboard announces its weekly Hot 100 chart every Monday. With Snap making an appearance at number 97, it is the second time in the 21st century that a Eurovision song has made it onto this chart. The positions in which songs are ranked are based on listenership via digital music services, sales, and radio in the US.

With the arrival of Rosa Linn, the number of songs that have entered the US Billboard’s Hot 100 is 12. These songs are as follows:

  1. Domenico Modugno – “Nel blu dipinto di blu (Volare)” (Italy, 1958) – 1st place
  2. ABBA – “Waterloo” (Sweden, 1974) – 6th place
  3. Mocedades – “Eres tú” (Spain, 1973) – 9th place
  4. Gina G – “Ooh Aah… Just a Little Bit” (United Kingdom, 1996) – 12th place
  5. Brotherhood of Man – “Save Your Kisses for Me” (United Kingdom, 1976) – 27th place
  6. Duncan Laurence – “Arcade” (Netherlands, 2021) – 30th place
  7. The New Seekers – “Beg, Steal or Borrow” (United Kingdom, 1972), 81st place
  8. Ronnie Carroll – “Say Wonderful Things” (United Kingdom, 1963), 91st place
  9. Mary Hopkin – “Knock, Knock Who’s There?” (United Kingdom, 1970), 92nd place
  10. Domenico Modugno – ‘Piove (Ciao, ciao, ciao banbina)’ (Italy, 1959) – 97th place
  11. Rosa Linn “Snap” (Armenia, 2022) – 97th place
  12. Cliff Richard – “Congratulations” (United Kingdom, 1968) – 99th place

We look forward to seeing how much higher Rosa Linn can go!

Stay tuned for all the latest developments regarding Eurovision 2023!

Armenia: “Snap” has officially surpassed “Brividi” and is now the most streamed song of Eurovision 2022!

We can say that it’s something everyone expected and “Snap”, with more than 2 million streams daily, is now the most streamed song of Eurovision Song Contest 2022 on Spotify, surpassing 110 million streams.

“Snap” by Rosa Linn, didn’t manage to be high in the scoreboard on the Grand Final, but it managed to travel and get streams throughout the whole world, having a place in the charts of more than 40 countries (including the USA and the United Kingdom). 110 million streams and counting, Armenia’s song for this year’s contest is now the song with the most streams from Eurovision 2022 and the ninth most streamed song in the contest’s history!

The TikTok’s dynamics

The above success seems to be related to the even greater singer’s success on TikTok. Prior to the Competition, Rosa Linn had, on her personal TikTok account, 5k followers and 85k likes; today her followers amount to 509k and her likes to 9 mil.

@rosalinnmusic

Just a “snap” away from the eighth place of every song in the contest!

It’s just a matter of time before “Snap” is on the eighth place of the list with the most streamed songs of the contest, as “Think About Things”, the song that would represent Iceland in the cancelled 2020 contest, has 119 million streams, around 9 million more streams than “Snap”

Congratulation to Rosa Linn for her huge commercial success!

Armenia: Rosa Linn wants to represent the country next year again!

The 22-year-old singer Rosa Linn is conquering the charts all over the world with her Eurovision viral hit ”SNAP”. Almost three months ago she represented Armenia with that song and unfortunately placed 20th, earning only 61 points, however it is the country’s best result since 2018. A couple of days after the final, it went viral on TikTok and rapidly kept gaining popularity ever since. The song is charting in Latin America and the US, as well as in countries in Africa.

Recently she has spoken to BBC and has said:

I’m from Vanadzor, in Armenia, which you probably don’t know where it is in the world, and I’m so, so happy. As a child I’d dream about this.

Once we hit the one million streams a day I was like ‘Oh My God’, I’m checking my numbers on Spotify every day and I see them grow and I just can’t believe it.

She also has stated that she would love to come back next year for Armenia!

Rosa Linn said she would “love to” represent Armenia next year.

“I really loved everything at Eurovision. I loved it before as a fan, but when you experience it, it’s magical.”

You can read the article in full here!

A couple of hours ago on her Instagram account she also announced that she had become officially a signed artist on Columbia Records. People who have recorded for Columbia include Beyoncé, Adele, The Chainsmokers and numerous others.

Stay tuned to EurovisionFun in order not to miss anything!

Armenia 2022: Rosa Linn is the most unexpected “winner” of Eurovision!

Does it matter if Rosa Linn took the 20th place for Armenia in the Eurovision final, collecting only 61 points? Does it matter that her song, “Snap,” did not have any considerable success on streaming platforms before and during ESC? Maybe, it doesn’t. The representative of Armenia seems to be tasting a belated victory, with her song going viral on both Spotify and TikTok!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAJ6vfmD_ic&ab_channel=EurovisionSongContest

The “Snapping” of Chanel

Since June 26, Rosa Linn has taken the first place in streams among all year’s Eurovision entries, forcing Chanel, to retreat to the second place. And its run of success did not cease there; “Snap” has consistently been in first place for three consecutive weeks, having amassed more than 22 million streams to date.

The TikTok’s dynamics

The above success seems to be related to the even greater singer’s success on TikTok. Prior to the Competition, Rosa Linn had, on her personal TikTok account, 5k followers and 85k likes; today her followers amount to 133.2k and her likes to 3.1 mil.

@rosalinnmusic

What is striking is that what seems to attract attention is not the original version of the song, but an alternative version of it at a much faster tempo, which is used as a background sound for the videos posted by the users. Acting on that, Rosa Linn released this particular version of “Snap” on Spotify under the title “SNAP – HIGH AND FAST” .

The dominance of Italy in streams

It should be mentioned, for purposes of clarity, that despite “Snap’s” substantial success in recent weeks on Spotify, Armenia’s entry does not overtake in streams other entries in this year’s Eurovision, such as Italy’s “Brividi” (102 mil. streams), Spain’s “SloMo” (40 mil. streams), Sweden’s “Hold me Closer” (33 mil. streams), Ukraine’s “Stefania” (32 mil. streams), and the United Kingdom’s “Space Man” (30 mil. streams) .

What do you think is preferable? To do well in Eurovision or to have your song become a hit?

Armenia: Suggestions for ESC 2023!

Ever since Armenia returned to (Junior) Eurovision Song Contest, it has had unexpectedly fantastic achievements. It won JESC in 2021 with Maléna and her beautiful song ‘Qami Qami’, it qualified to the Grand Final for the first time since 2017 with Rosa Linn and ‘SNAP’, which is also currently storming the charts and is viral on TikTok. This is definitely an unbelievably amazing return, however the delegation should dream bigger!

Armenia has never won Eurovision and has never placed in the top 3 in the contest. Last time the country placed in the top 5 was in 2014 (4th place) and the last top 10 result was in 2016 (7th). Here are some suggestions for Armenia to bring the country back to the top:

Ladanvia

Ladaniva is a multicultural band creating world music with a fresh touch of Armenian folk and other traditional forms, such as maloya, Balkan, reggae, Arabic, African. The group was founded in October 2019 by Armenian singer Jacqueline Baghdasaryan and French multi-instrumentalist Louis Thomas. Ladaniva is very popular among Armenians. During the tough times, the only thing that would bring happiness to Armenians all over the world was their single ‘Kef Chilini’. Europe’s taste has changed a lot and they have started appreciating authentic songs. For the record, Armenia does unexpectedly well when it sends something traditional with ethnic elements.

JINJ

Just like Ladaniva, JINJ is also Armenian-French duo. Sourcing inspiration from majestic green mountains to the pulsing beat of the city, from liturgical chants to underground rap, in a nonconventional mixture of 808s and shepherd’s flutes, JINJ is the rhythmic manifestation of the diversity of the Armenian landscape and culture. Their style is reminiscent of Go_A’s who came top 5 last year. Extraordinary, unique, authentic and ethnic – it definitely should work for Armenia!

yellowheart.

A new artist in Armenian music industry! Her actual name is Lily, however her stage name is yellowheart due to the fact that her brother used to tell her that ‘she has a yellow heart’. She lately released an EP with her own original arrangements of Armenian folk songs and five singles in Armenian. Her style is reminiscent of Maro who placed 9th for Portugal this year with the song ‘saudade, saudade’. Lily’s songs are authentic, breathtaking, magical and easy to listen to. If she creates an atmospheric song for Eurovision with an astounding melody and production, it will definitely do great!

Ani Christy

Ani Christy was born on March 15, 1986 in Armenia, Yerevan into a musical family. Her father is an actor and her mother is a violist, concertmaster. Ani has many accomplishments and credits to her name, among them the following:

She has taken part in many singing contests and won first place.
She was invited to have a world-tour with Indian Oscar-winning producer-composer A.R. Rahman.
She was the first Armenian singer to sing as a soprano in the Oakland East Bay Symphony, in a performance at Paramount Pictures Theatre.

One of the strongest vocalists in Armenia and undoubtedly with the right song has all the chances to do very well and even be a fan favourite!

Garik&Sona

Sona Rubenyan is an Armenian singer and songwriter. She is best known for winning the fifth edition of Hay Superstar. Since 2016, Rubenyan has been collaborating with Garik Papoyan (co-writer of Not Alone (2014, (4th place), 2019, (16th in semi, 37th overall), Armenia’s spokesperson at ESC 2022) as a duo under the name Garik & Sona, releasing several singles including “Lusin”, “Esor Urbat e”, “Nino” and more. In November 2020, amid the Nagorno-Karabakh war she was featured on a charity single titled “Mez vochinch chi haghti” (Nothing Will Win Us) along with four Eurovision previous entrants Srbuk, Gor Sujyan, Iveta Mukuchyan, Sevak Khanagyan, also Arthur Khachents and Sevak Amroyan. Sona is one of the strongest vocalist in Armenia (if not the best) with a magnificent timbre. Garik is an incredible lyricst and also does fantastic productions and arrangements. Excellent duo for ESC, and diaspora loves them a lot and will support them across Europe if they’re given the chance to wave the colours of Armenian flag.

Lilit Hovhannisyan

Lilit Hovhannisyan is one of the most popular Armenian singers. She became famous in 2006 after participating in the first season of the TV project “Hay Superstar”, where she took the 4th place. She released her debut studio album in 2011. Lilit has released plenty of music videos, some of which have garnered millions of views on YouTube. Her video with Nanul has passed the hundred million milestone. Lilit is very charismatic and energetic, with a great ethno-pop and experienced stage director (such as Sacha Jean Baptiste, Marvin Dietmann, Fokas Evangelinos and etc.) she has all chances for the best possible result at ESC.

Returnees

Speaking of possible returnees, then it definitely should be Srbuk. Unfortunately, she didn’t succeed at ESC 2019 and moreover got the worst result for Armenia throughout the history of the entire contest. Nevertheless, she can do much more. She has a fantastic voice and she can show it if given the right and most importantly, authentic, song (several performances of hers proved that before). You can listen to her latest release ‘Siro Ritm'(Love’s Rhythm) here:

These were the suggestions for ESC 2023! Armenia hasn’t confirmed its participation in the contest.

The most successful Eurovision countries in the 20s!

Eurovision is heading to the third decade of the 21st century and it has clearly changed not only in comparison with the past, but also with the recent years. In this article we investigate how countries scored during the first 2 years of the 20s, as well as their average score.

As you can see below, we cannot identify a group of 5-6 performing performing always well, as it used to happen the last years. Only a few countries are consistently doing well, despite the fact that the scores studied are only of the last 2 years. Tougher competition, the success of the contest on social media (TikTok had a business partnership with the contest this year featuring exclusive clips of the first rehearsals on the platform), as well as the high interest by record labels are only some of the reasons why it is harder to perform consistently well, since entries are of higher lever than the past.

Lets see in detail the average score of the countries during this decade:

Country        2022   2021    Average

  1. Ukraine           1          5             3
  2. Italy                 6          1            3,5
  3. Greece             8         10            9
  4. Sweden           4         14             9
  5. Russia             –           9             9
  6. Switzerland    17        3             10
  7. Moldova          7        13            10
  8. Serbia              5         15            10
  9. Portugal          9         12           10.5
  10. Lithuania       14         8             11
  11. France            24         2             13
  12. Spain               3         24           13.5
  13. Iceland          23          4            13.5
  14. Finland          21          6            13.5
  15. United Kingdom 2     26           14
  16. Norway           10         18            14
  17. The Netherlands 11     23          17
  18. Azerbaijan     16          20            18
  19. Belgium          19         19             19
  20. Armenia         20          –              20
  21. Malta               35          7             21
  22. Estonia           13         31             22
  23. Poland            12         33            22.5
  24. Cyprus            29         16            22.5
  25. Romania        18          28            23
  26. Israel              30          17           23.5
  27. Albania          28          21           24.5
  28. Australia        15          34           24.5
  29. Bulgaria         38          11           24.5
  30. Germany        25          25            25
  31. Croatia           26          27           26.5
  32. St. Marino     33          22           27.5
  33. Czech Republic 22     36             29
  34. Denmark        31         29             30
  35. North Macedonia 27 35             31
  36. Austria           36         30             33
  37. Ireland           34         37            35.5
  38. Latvia             32         39            35.5
  39. Slovenia         40        32              36
  40. Montenegro   37         –                37
  41. Georgia           39       38             38.5

As you can see in the table above, there are very few countries where the average of their positions in these two years is below 10. This proves how difficult it has become to be in the top ten. It is even more difficult to have continuous results within top 10, since only three countries have achieved this, Ukraine, Italy and Greece!

It is evident that Italy and Ukraine are the two powerhouses of the competition for this decade (so far). Sweden remains high on the list, but far from the first place it was in the last decade. Greece is recovering dynamically since it is in third place, when in the previous decade it was out of the 20s. Cyprus gets lower scores year by year, unfortunately making us believe that 2018 was just a coincidence and is currently in 24th place!

Regardless of personal taste and opinions, the numbers speak themselves and is clear that Ukraine, Italy and Greece are doing great during this decade. The new strategy of the management of ERT to chose the artist and the song internally, is proven to be successful, after years of bad results and 2 NQ (2016,2018).

Stay tuned on Eurovisionfun because the journey to Eurovision 2023 has already begun!
