Greece: These are the five artists who are still claiming the ticket for Turin!

We are one step closer to the artist, who will represent Greece in the 66th Eurovision Song Contest. The ERT has published the names of the five artists, who still continue to claim the Greek representation in Turin. It was also announced, as Eurovisionfun has reported months ago, that the Greek representative in Turin will be chosen internally, by the expert committee.

25 artists submitted about 40 songs to ERT, of which the competent committee under Dimitris Papadimitriou selected the five best, performed by an equal number of artists.

So the five lucky ones who still hope to represent Greece in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest are:

Amanda Tenfjord (Amanda Georgiadis)

The expatriate artist from Norway, with an experienced and strong team, enters the internal selection with a classy, inner ballad. – more HERE.

Good Job Nicky (Nikolas Varthakouris)

Nikolas Varthakouris participates in the internal selection with a cinematic song. He also has a strong team behind him, with Fokas Evangelinos standing out. – more HERE.

Elias Kozas

Three songs have been submitted by the Greek representative at Eurovision 2013. Completely different from Alcohol Is Free and in an insurgent rhythm, as he told us. One song of them is in the final list – more HERE.

Lou is

Lou is is an expericed artist. Her true name is Louisa Sofianopoulou. She has worked with all the big Greek artists like Giannis Kotsiras, Eleni Vitali, Dimitra Galani and more. Her record label is called The Hubsters.

Joanna Drigo

Joanna Drigo or Ioanna Drigopoulou is a young singer and musician with pop-rock influences. She sings both Greek and English songs. Her record label is Cobalt Eclectic.

The final selection will be made after the committee of ERT first has private meetings with the artists and the groups that frame their proposals. In these meetings each artist will give more information about his/her song, the plans of the stage appearance, the promotion intends to do, etc. The final selection by the ERT’s jury will take into account all the above.

Surprisingly, in the final five, there aren’t names that for many were considered as favorites, proving that the only criterion of ERT is the proposals of the artists and their prospects in the difficult track of Eurovision.

Which artist do you think will be the final choice of ERT and will represent Greece in Eurovision 2022? Tell us in the comments below!

EBU uploaded again the “How To Eurovision – Greece” video, after ERT’s protest!

The video “How To Eurovision – Greece” is back on YouTube, having removed the points for which ERT sent an official protest to the EBU.

First through Eurovisionfun you read about the strange video, which both we and many other fans characterized, the EBU posted on YouTube and the rest of the social media and supposedly honored the Greek presence in the contest.

Specifically, in the original video, apart from a brief review of Greece in Eurovision Song Contest, there was an extensive tribute to the 12 points of Cyprus to Greece, while it was mentioned that in 1998 the Greek entry saved from the last place and the 0 points, thanks to the 12 points of Cyprus. As if that were not enough, the video even included the mocking of the Greek participation that year by the audience.

Of course, in similar videos from other countries, we did not see anything like that, because of course it is not only Greece and Cyprus that, for well-known reasons, exchange high scores every year. Denmark does the same with Iceland, but so do the other Nordic countries, as do Poland and Ukraine, Estonia and Latvia, Belarus and Russia, as well as the countries of the former Yugoslavia.

After the dynamic intervention of ERT, which made it understandable to those involved that the issue would go to extremes as it was a matter of dignity, the problematic points were removed from social media, and then the video was completely downloaded from YouTube.

As of yesterday afternoon, the video is again on YouTube, without the audience’s mocking, with a clearly shorter and more diplomatic reference to the 12 points of Cyprus, while the saxophonist’s “out of tune” solo in Anixi of Sofia Vossou no longer exists.

Greece: Constantinos Christoforou speaks to Europhoria, about his song for Eurovision 2022!

Last Saturday, Constantinos Christoforou was a guest on CyBC’s radio show Europhoria, hosted by Melina Karageorgiou. Among other things, he gave more details about the song with which he claims the Greek representation for Eurovision 2022!

Memories of the previous three entries

Constantinos Christoforou, who twice represented as a solo (1996 and 2005) and once with the band ONE (2002) his homeland, talked about all three of his previous participations, while of course he commented on his effort this year to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest for a fourth time, this time with the Greek colors.

About 1996 and “Mono Yia Emas“, which he described it as his favorite of his three entries, he stated that it was essentially the occasion for the beginning of his career, since he had the opportunity to introduce himself to such a large audience.

1996 was followed by “Gimme” and the participation with ONE in 2002. Constantinos reveals that the second candidate song was “Matia Mou“, with English lyrics, which was included in their album that was released later. He considers the sixth place an injustice one, since everyone believed that they would be at least in the Top 3.

Making his self-criticism for 2005, Constantinos Christoforou comments that perhaps the choice of “Ela Ela” was wrong, since in now he believes that the song She’s No Fool, written by Mike Connaris, would have achieved a better result, as it was very ahead of its time.

In fact, Constantinos Christoforou does not hesitate to say that RIK should have made an internal choice then and chosen this song, without holding a national final with the participation of the public, who voted in the vast majority of “Ela Ela“.

The song he submitted to ERT for Eurovision 2022

Melina Karageorgiou asked Constantinos Christoforou about the song he submitted to ERT, for the internal selection of the Greek entry in Eurovision 2022.

It’s a song I love very much. It is a ballad. A Mediterranean ballad, not ethnic, Mediterranean… There are two versions. One in Greek and English and one in Italian, which I love as a language despite not speaking it. The Greek lyrics are by Gioula Georgiou, the English are by Stefanos, my brother, the Italian ones are a surprise, you will see it when I release it.

Constantinos Christoforou states that it was a decision of his record label (MINOS EMI), to send the song to ERT for Eurovision, something of course that he immediately agreed with. All he asked was that they not bother him about anything other than telling him the result of the internal choice.

The above practically means that Constantinos Christoforou was not positive either in the participation in a national final, fully confirming everything we told you, for the refusal of most of the 25 artists participating in the ERT process to compete in an open television national final.

Concluding his interview with Europhoria, Constantinos Christoforou states that he will not speak publicly again about the effort to claim Greek participation in Eurovision 2022, since his decision is to keep a low profile, simply talking with his work, when and if needed.

You can listen the interview HERE (In Greek).

Ilias Kozas: “Last year I was in talks about a Eurovision return – This year I sent three songs to ERT”

Ilias Kozas confirmed what was written during last year’s Eurovision Song Contest about RIK’s proposal in his person for the representation of Cyprus in Eurovision 2021. The experienced singer referred, also, to all three songs he submitted to ERT in view of the internal selection for Eurovision 2022.

The 37-year-old singer was in contact with RIK last year, discussing his return to the competition as a solo artist and without his band, the Koza Mostra. Kozas together with his band and Agathon in 2013 brought Greece for the last time in the top 10 of the final ranking, with the song of Alcohol Is Free, until last May and the 10th place of Stefania.

In an interview on Katerina Karavatou’s show on Mega, he spoke about RIK’s approach, his desire to try out a solo career and his effort this year:

In general, with all the quarantine and everything we experience, I cleared my mind and began to expand on other sounds. I decided to do something solo. On this solo that has nothing to do with KOZA MOSTRA, I said why not?

A proposal was made to me last year but I was hesitant. I did not feel like going again and in the middle of covid. For those who have experienced it, Eurovision is a party. It is a pity to go and have quarantines, masks, vaccines.

I submitted three songs that were ready in advance, I did not write them for Eurovision, and they were not written exclusively for Eurovision.

We remind you that Ilias Kozas is one of the candidates to represent Greece at Eurovision 2022 next May in Turin.

It comes out as a surprise the fact that Ilias Kozas has submitted three songs, all of them with English lyrics and not with Greek. His proposed entries are of rock style, a genre he has served in his recent work both as solo artist and together with Koza Mostra band.

Greece: Artemis Matafia: Kostas Karafotis embraced our effort!

Artemis Matafia gave an interview to the greek TV-show “Super Katerina”, regarding her effort to represent Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest in Turin saying that she submitted two songs to ERT with English lyrics. She specifically stated:

We have submitted two songs to ERT for Eurovision 2022 in Italy. We made the decision when the announcement came out from ERT, that it accepts songs from artists for the contest . The songs are written in English but both of them have a small Greek element, which is goint to be a surprise.

At the same time, she talked about the involvement of the greek singer Kostas Karafotis.

I was looking for a production company to support our songs, as I did not have any. When Kostas listened to our songs, he really supported our efforts. Kostas leads the representation of our effort.

Kostas himself confirmed that in his interview to the same show:

I am really interested in Eurovision and helping Artemis with the submission of the song. The moment I found out which is the team behind the song, I immediately thought, “I am in”.[…] I can’t say too many things, but it’s not a ballad. The lyrics of the song send a really nice message though.

Regarding the other entries and specifically the good job nicky’s one, he stated:

Why not? I am fan of his music and the way he approaches things. What I am most interested in however, is for a good song to represent Greece.

Greece: The ERT committee will start its meetings next week!

We are now entering the final stretch for the selection of the artist and the song that will represent Greece in the 66th Eurovision Song Contest. After the completion of the submission of proposals for the claim of the Greek representation in Eurovision 2022, the competent committee of ERT, which will have the final say, is ready to start work and thoroughly examine all the songs submitted, as well as the other details, from each proposal.

Larger than in previous years, it is expected to be the competent artistic committee of ERT, which will make the final decision for Stefania’s successor in the Eurovision stage. With renowned people of music and led for another year by Dimitris Papadimitriou, the committee will be invited to choose the song and the proposal that will bring the country as high as possible in the Eurovision 2022 standings. The atmosphere at ERT is something more than positive, something that was reflected not only in our articles, but also in the entire electronic and print press, where the increase of interest was commented extensively, after the successful presence in this year’s competition.

According to our information, ERT is oriented to complete the selection in two phases:

  • Select a small number of songs (3-4) that will distinguish the committee from the approximately 40 submitted.
  • To meet with the artists of these songs, to discuss with them the rest of the details of their proposal.
  • To make the final decision taking into account all the above.

In contrast to what happened in previous years, ERT wishes to have reached both the artist and the song before the end of the year. This will give extra time to better prepare, but also to promote its entry. The goal as we wrote in our previous articles is clear, a better placement from this year’s tenth place, something completely possible as the members of the Greek delegation believe.

Stay tuned to Eurovisionfun for all the developments regarding the Greek participation in the 66th Eurovision Song Contest!

Greece: 25 proposals with more than 40 songs were submitted to ERT! EXCLUSIVE

The deadline given by ERT to those who wished to apply for the representation of Greece in Eurovision 2022 ended at midnight on Sunday, October 10. At the moment, according to our exclusive information, 25 proposals of artists have been submitted in ERT’s headquarters, with more than 40 songs!

How many artists participated?

The terms of ERT’s announcement were clear. They wanted complete proposals, from artists who belong to a record company or through a production company. This was intended not to submit a huge number of songs, but only serious proposals, which treat the project with due care.

The bet was crowned with great success, since almost all the record companies in the country, but also several from abroad, sent their proposals. Among the candidates, as you read in the previous period in Eurovisionfun, there are several remarkable and successful artists, who of course honor ERT with their participation.

Despite what has been said since morning in various shows about the number of proposals and songs that were finally submitted to ERT, the truth is completely different and the number is much higher.

More specifically, the Greek representation in the 66th Eurovision Song Contest is claimed by 25 artists. In total, more than 40 songs have been submitted to the jury that will make the final decision!

The candidates in detail

Some of the most well-known artists who have applied are:

Good Job Nicky: Nikolas Varthakouris participates in the internal selection with a cinematic song. He also has a strong team behind him, with Fokas Evangelinos standing out. – more HERE.

Jimmy Sion: We met him from his participation in SKAI’s House of Fame. He submitted two songs to ERT, quite different from each other. One is quite upbeat, while the other is an interpretive ballad.

Joanne: The latest winner of The Voice of Greece takes part in the process with a song, by well-known and successful creators. It is in pop and dance rhythms. – more HERE.

Kianna: A disco / techno track from her album that will be released in the coming months includes her proposal.

Marseaux: One of the most alternative proposals. An English, indie pop song, with clear references to the #metoo movement.

Other candidates: More than ten more proposals were submitted by more unrecognizable artists, some of them even from abroad. – more HERE.

The competent committee of ERT now has a speech, headed by the well-known composer and member of the company’s Board of Directors, Dimitris Papadimitriou, who will make the final decisions about the artist and the song that will represent Greece in Turin. Although it is still early, the information tells us that there are some very good songs, which brings great optimism for a very good placement in the final of Eurovision 2022!

Stay tuned to Eurovisionfun for all the developments regarding the Greek participation in the upcoming song contest!

Greece: Kalomira did not finally submit her proposal!

A few minutes ago, ERT’s deadline for submitting entries for Eurovision 2022 expired. As you had the opportunity to find out through our website all the previous days, Kalomira did not finally submit her proposal for the Greek representation in the 66th Eurovision Song Contest.

Kalomira is, after all, the only artist from all those who were heard in the previous period who did not transform her interest into action. Despite the fact that in the previous days she was in the studio, recording with important creators, such as Mohombi, Claydee Loupa and Anderz Wrethow, she did not send her proposal until midnight on Sunday (10/10), so that she could also claim it. the ticket to Turin next May.

What were the reasons for this unexpected decision of Kalomira, no one knows. In an article by OK a few minutes ago, it seems that Kalomira was expecting a direct assignment and that is why she may not have finally submitted her proposals.

It now remains to be seen when and if Kalomira will finally release the songs she has already recorded – it is said that they are six or seven tracks – to see if ERT should, as many have said, proceed with a direct assignment with a guaranteed product that has been unforgettable to the Eurofans with her inexhaustible energy, her original spontaneity and her brilliant stage presence.

The above is another proof for all those who insist that ERT does not hold a national final. So for the last time and we hope everyone understands, none of the well-known candidates wanted to participate in a national final!

The most important is that the participation of artists and record labels was much higher than ERT expected and despite the absence of Kalomira, the competent committee that will undertake the final selection will have a difficult task, since the level is very high, with the people of Greek public television to comment that this is the highest level Greek selection of all time, something of course that fills the ERT team dealing with the project with smiles, confirming their strategy and choices.

In the coming days of course we will inform you about everything that will follow, stay tuned to Eurovisionfun for all the developments!
